I spoke about the OSC, didn´t I? I don´t even know the Drice Effect and wouldn´t have mentioned the Filters...zerocrossing wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 11:13 pmI’ve always thought his strength was in the oscillators and drive effect, but his filters are a bit sterile sounding.GRUMP wrote: Mon Nov 02, 2020 10:10 pm Believe it or don´t - but asked like that I´d say that the MSoundfactory has a supeiour OSC Quality.

It's a close run between U-he Repro and Synapse Audio The Legend. Listen to the demo. These two synths are the closest to analog in my opinion.

I simply thought it better to put the question here than start another thread. Didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers in so doing.

I never understand these threads. Every one of the hundreds of synths I've heard or own all sound great in their own way so I'm baffled at a lot of these comparisons. Best sounding could be said to be a synth that achieved it's goal or one that perfectly emulates an analog signal but none of these qualities make it better or worse objectively, or one whose modulation is intuitive, or have great diversity and can sound like a lot of other synths, capable of a wide range of sounds etc. I get the feeling everyone is trying to have them compete against each other so one can dominate or a person can feel rest assured they didn't waste their money. Every synth I own sounds amazing or shitty in a good way and I'm in awe of all of them. just like any object in the world makes a different sound and can be used creatively for different textures or emotes. I can't think of one that is not as good as all the other in it's way. Anyone I could pick up and it's unique qualities will determine how I use it. I think if you don't like a particular synth, it's because it won't do what you expect it to do based on a preconceived idea. I probably don't know what I'm talking about but this is my perspective on the topic. I am not a technical person in any way as well so maybe I'm missing the appeal.

anytime someone asks for THE BEST anything, it's a good idea to ignore them. Unless measurable, BEST is almost always relative and there's no way to conclude what THE BEST anything is.

BS. There is always best stuff, or best value stuff. Best motorbikes and best synths. Even if best is subjective, the bestology science tries to extract some objective parameters.psynical wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 3:12 am anytime someone asks for THE BEST anything, it's a good idea to ignore them. And if you take corner cases, you can’t deny that “best” makes sense. And then you move to math analysis and cases get much less corner, but still “best(ish)” remains cause it existed for the corner cases in the first place.
So please ignore and let people compare stuff.
And the answer to the topic is simple: u-he Repro
(I don’t own Synapse Legend and Obsession, but I believe they should be also the best sounding synth, and I’ll add them to the list once I get them)
Weapons of choice (subject to change):
Godin Redline, Kuassa, Fuse Audio, Audiority, Roland A-500pro, Dune, Dagger, TAL, Reaper for Rock & Synthwave pleasures; Viper and FL Studio for guilty EDM pleasures

I noticed that at least it the genres I'm listening to the most (psytrance, psychill, progressive trance/breaks and such) the focus has shifted from relatively simple but impressive/characterful sounds to something more sophisticated in terms of sound-design, with lots of modulations/movements, waveform manipulations, resampling, layering end such. So I guess these days the "core sound" of the synth doesn't matter much anymore, it's more about how many filter types and oscillator effetcs the synth has and how many mod sources you can assign to these.
I think this must be a sort of natural evoltion of sound-design but when I hear a 2005-ish trance/psy/breaks track with these juicy sounds coming from old hardware (Access Virus/Nord/Microwave, various analogs etc) it always makes my ears smile

You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

That's what I meant before, I find it absurdly politically correct to say they are all good. Some things are always better than others, not just different.Dencheg wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 9:09 amBS.
