It is ! I'm definitely having some fun with it, despite it's obvious shortcomings. Proper hardsync just isn't a $25 thing, is it ? Some devs seem to think it's not even a $150+ thing.
gentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Nov 15, 2020 12:14 pm I genuinly wonder if voltage modular standard modules have the same sync aliasing issues
They do...
gentleclockdivider wrote: Sun Nov 15, 2020 12:14 pm Before anyone comments that they don't make music for bats , that is not really the point
I won't. I don't. It isn't. You're point is perfectly valid. The sync is not good for audio rate applications. It's actually so rough, I wonder if it's even really intended for that, or rather just to patch in a gate signal.

It's actually been quite educational to follow your posts. Thanks !
Also to TJ for his video. Totally agree: that filter should ring !

The audio rate modulation is not really the problem , it does behave pretty well unless we're going into extremes .
But once osc.sync is introduced , it's just
Even standard normal sync
I just compared with 20 year old reaktor primary modules , no such issue , clean as a whistle

Thanks for doing these analyses, gentleclockdivider. It's been eye-opening.

Hopefully CA takes this as an opportunity to improve things.
A well-behaved signature.

Synth 1 does it for free, as did most of my SynthEdit freebies.
NOVAkILL : Legion GO, AMD Z1x, 16GB RAM, Win11 | Audient EVO 8 | Lumi Keys | Studio Pro 8
Korg Odyssey, bx-oberhausen, Proxima, PolyMax, GR8, JP6K, Union, Atomika,
Invader 2, Flow Motion, Olga, TRK 01, Thorn, Spire, VG Iron

Truth be said , synth 1 also aliases a fair amount at higher registers .

To avoid any misunderstandings: I did not mean to imply that it was; Only the case of patching ( audio-frequency ) oscillators to 'sync' was meant. FM, AM, filter modulation, RM ( including feedback constructions ) are all very usable. Wouldn't have spent the $ otherwise, as to me those are actually more important than the filter. No regrets. :)

Good to read all your findings gentleclockdivider. To me, both the modular as well as the other plugins from CA sounded unpleasant and totally not authentic. It's good to see all the things you find that probably are at the bottom of that impression.

I made the mistake of posting my findings on too many forums ( gearslutz , kvr audio ) .
I get called a self declared expert going on a rampage trying to mock their company and being nitpicky .
Apparently pointing out major flaws is nitpicky
Check out gearslutz new product allert ca 2600 ( from page 2 )
All I did was pointing out issues and made these public , when someone agrees with me it's my sock puppet
To me there is no harm in pointing out flaws in products when it's released to the public, be it hardware or software , that's what forums are about .
I also do beta testing where an NDA prohibits me from doing that , but that's a totally differnet case and does not apply here
I'm gonna give my license away and forget about all this :tu: , this is one company I will avoid and nobody can stop me from giving my opinion about their products .

Yeah, in this crowded market I find it helpful if people show what's going on behind the scenes.
I trust my ears and most of the time that works just fine, but with all the beautiful GUIs and marketing, it's easy to fall for something that on paper looks good but isn't really.
I'm much more happy with something like Vital where a great dev and community work on a really deep and great sounding plugin that is also affordable.
In this day and age of amazing free plugins and really solid commercial ones, it makes no sense to waste life energy with things that aren't up to that standard.

Cheers,

Tom

I usually try to provide feedback/issue reports on the company's forums, when that's available, usually on the Bugs/Feedback sections, if there's any. ...when I care for the product or company

I try to use the more generic forums (like KVR) for opinions/feedback with links to those posts, so it won't get too spread out, having to keep track and reply on too many threads about the same'ish issues (unless it's possible to keep a thread per issue).

It's CA's and most importantly, our (the users and prospect customers) loss :?

I did exactly that , and also posted on the gearslutz forum asking when they are going to fix their bugs , but apparently the 44Khz artifacts and osc sync are not bugs , trying to discredit me etc...
Being called out a self explained expert and being mocked by one of CA own people is the cherry on top :clown: .
The CA guy is an industry veteran musician running a pro-audio company but doesn't hear what's wrong with the product .
It's simple really , it's a company that mostly relies on flashy advertising and bottom prices , and I am the elephant in the room for not walking in line .
I was just genuinly interested if the arp 2600 was as good as advertised
