yeah, his posts in this thread aren't without merit, he just swing a bit too much into "personal" territory and empty assumption based on the personal biases

I watched the first half and stopped as it was PR and told me less than the original announcement.
The second half was a bit better but it's still much more PR than technical.

Price/Performance Multi-Core Comparison

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X (64 cores) reaches 25015 at Multi-Core GeekBench 5. Chip alone costs new more than $3'000 right now.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8 cores) reaches 8490 at Multi-Core GeekBench 5. Chip alone costs new about $300 at the moment.

Mac mini M1 (8 cores) reaches 7643 at Multi-Core GeekBench 5. Whole computer (16GB/512GB SSD) costs $1'100 as we speak.

CPU Multi-Core performance seems to scale perfectly linear here. MB Pro 13" M1 machine reaches 4 times less than a AMD Ryzen 32-core so far.

Multi-Core. So far seem AMD Ryzen chips performance wise real-world at least on par.

I would really love to see some single core tests after running whatever of these new M1 machines under constant load. Multicore the 13" MBP seems to slightly beat my cheesgrater already (at least given the Cinebench screenshot from Twitter), which is quite amazing, but still, what I'm missing for my personal musings is some more single thread juice (and obviously under constant load).

M1 machines were relatively cool after rendering allegedly. Maybe an indicator that M1 doesn't throttle so fast? Could be positive for single-core performance under constant load.

We'll see. Geekbench results for AMD's 15W 4800U vary a lot (around between 4000-7400 multi-core performance), but the M1 isn't that much above the competition as some people think it is. Still impressive, though.

apple was skimpy with cooling

i'd like to see M1 in the Mini case vs Mbp case.
The i7 in the Mini was outperforming the i9 6-cores in the 15"

why not stack it against similar power envelope ultra-portables?
