Before I commit to SA Epic strings and Intimate strings, could I do better for my £60? I am looking for ensembles and do not want to be multitracking individual instruments to create massive orchestrations.

For the price, you can't go wrong with the Originals series.
The sample quality is excellent as they're taken from their now defunct Albion 1 and Loegria libraries.
Do you only need strings or also other orchestral instruments?
An alternative you COULD consider would be Soundiron Hyperion Strings Elements, currently on sale for $69. It all depends on the sound you're after and your workflow. Listen to the demo's and watch the walkthroughs
