dionenoid wrote: Tue Nov 17, 2020 1:29 pm I bought the early access, and after a few days of playing with it i can only confirm your thoughts. It is a fun synth to program, but soundwise it really doesn't hold up to the synths it's trying to imitate.
Why does everybody think it's trying to "imitate" some specific synth? It's not like Serum is unique or anything. Heck it wasn't even remotely "the first" when it comes to wave tables.

Personally I think Vital sounds absolutely amazing! If you have the CPU cycles to spend, then at x8 oversampling it can do absolutely crazy stuff.

It can be harsh, soft, mellow, smooth, crazy and down right sick sounding. It's all in the hands of the preset creator.

Yes it has some limitations but then it also has some amazing flexibility in other areas.

Does Vital replace all other synthesizers on the planet? Of course not! It's not going to replace specialized synths like Diva or FM8. But why does it have to?? Vital is 100% it's own thing with it's own workflow and character.. and it's a damn good one!

Can anybody make & post some softer sounds made with Vital? Would be interesting to hear something else than those very digital and harsh sounds the current Vital videos seem to offer... :D

I bet some people are about to start complaining about Vital sounding not analogue enough, about it being a cheap knockoff of Serum or about its filters being too sterile.

I've watched every Youtube video I can find about it, nothing amazing or special about any of the sounds I've heard - at all. Plus I hate 'flat' (i.e. shit) interfaces, we have incredible colours and resolutions on monitors nowadays, and too many programmers are forcing this hideous design on us.
Can anybody show me some of the presets they think are the most impressive?
Every top synth already available is so good that nothing new can be amazing in comparison. I don't think the sound quality of Vital is better than the other synths I have but it is no slouch either. If the price were $180 I would not have bothered trying Vital based on a couple videos which did nothing for me. For $20 and with MPE support, I said why not try it so I did.

I did not try more than a few presets. I just started making my own. I immediately found the synth fun to use with the features of the wavetable Osc's really standing out to me. The sound quality is solid to high. It handles complex and audio rate modulations well. The sound is not as super clear as Serum but then I find Serum a bit sterile. Vital sounds more easily musical to me.

The GUI feels really fast and immediate and yeah, fun. The modulation is superb. It will be an excellent MPE synth. I really like being able to see the various modulations right on the GUI without tabbing much. The Mod Matrix might be the best I have seen. I need more time with it to say more.

Vital has a few rough spots. I have not found any major turn off. Time will tell, but I can imagine using this synth regularly.

I will admit that after spending quite some time making patches for Vital yesterday I took a break and called up Hive 2 and was surprised by how much better its core sound is for the types of patches I make.

For those fretting over spending $20 it's basically the price of a pizza that will be gone in a couple of hours. If Vital just entertains you for a few days then you're well ahead of the game and you've got a synth that most likely has a bright future.
Man... I'm not easily impressed and i hate collecting software that i don't use. :?
Even if it's free.
i'll wait for the free version and buy plus if i see if i can get something good out of it.

or, if you're in NY (or a few other cities), 'the price of a slice of pizza'.... :D

WHat exactly do you mean by this. You can set the voices to 1, turn on legato, put an LFO to move through the wave table and press different notes and it will play the part of the wavetable at the pitch of the pressed note.

If you also put it on Vocode (not sure if you did in your example) it is even smoother.

I'm not easily impressed these days either. I have a folder full of top notch synths and it's hard for anything new to find its place.

But like I said it's a bit early to tell where Vital will find its place. It may be something I only use for the Text to Wavetable feature or it may be something I use frequently. Either way it was worth the $20 just to check it out early. I've gotten that much entertainment out of it so far just creating patches.

But waiting for the free version is understandable so come back in a week and tell us how you're getting on.

But if you get the pizza with the bad anchovies, that one can last more than a few hours

I'm a fan of wave table synths,so I bought into the early access and I have a feeling that Vital will develop into a serious contender in the soft synth world....

It already has a great deal of flavour baked in with no bad anchovies :tu:
