Just tried the compressor module. It's wonderful! This is a seriously good sounding digital compressor. Extremely precise and with a pleasant attack and release curves.

Feature Requests:

- Ability to precisely enter values on modules (maybe there is but I haven't found it?).

- I'd also like a way to quickly reset knob positions back to default. Especially make up gain knob would be nice to get down to 0 by a simple double click or something.

- SHIFT + Left mouse, aka "box marquee selection" should work in my opinion even if I first left click and then press SHIFT. Basically as soon as shift is hit, the mouse should let go of the view drag and become a box drag thing. As it is now, it's a bit tedious to use and if you are a bit off with hitting shift first, you'll simply drag around the screen. Btw, I've seen you make this mistake too in some of your videos. This little update to the user experience would remove all such mistakes. :)

I can't seem to connect several outputs into a single input.. what's going on? I'm trying to connect the compressor + scope as shown in the July blogpost example image. I can't connect it the way it is shown as the wire gets deleted when I drag another one onto a node that is already connected.

Is this a bug or new feature or does my memory fail me?

Another thing I'm struggling with.. how do I get much finer resolution of a Knob that I have set from 0 to 20000 (20k)? I'm translating this knob through a Hz to Pitch node and I'd like to have really fine resolution of the knob, even at the high frequencies (so using Angle is not possible, I'd like the knob to literally have 20k steps). However, setting step resolution to 1 doesn't give me that. A bug?

Thanks! We are glad, you like the sound.

There's no way yet, but you can do it precisely via modulation, if the knobs / slider do not do the job. Adding a constant of -3 to the threshold modulation of the compressor will result in a threshold level of -3dB, like here:

We are revisiting input methods currently, and will decide about this.

"I can't seem to connect several outputs into a single input.. what's going on? I'm trying to connect the compressor + scope as shown in the July blogpost example image. I can't connect it the way it is shown as the wire gets deleted when I drag another one onto a node that is already connected."

You can connect as many things to an output as you like, but an input plug can have one connection only. This was always the case in Alpha Forever, this is not a new feature. In the july post the way the nodes were arranged was a bit misleading: the second output of the compressor goes to the output node if you look at it closer.. you can see the wire running behind the scope.

"Another thing I'm struggling with.. how do I get much finer resolution of a Knob that I have set from 0 to 20000 (20k)? Each knob can be turned with the RMB to fine adjusments. If you create your own knob, you can set the curve of the knob as well: if it goes from 0 to 22000, i'd suggest using a curve of 2 or 3, that will make it exponential.
https://www.afmodular.com/nodes/knob

Another way is to create a knob going from 0..1, put a custom function after it. This way you can draw your curve as steep as you want, and do the scaling on the Y output, like this:

"- I'd also like a way to quickly reset knob positions back to default. Especially make up gain knob would be nice to get down to 0 by a simple double click or something."

We wanted this feature into this release, but it did not make it. Should be in the next version for sure, this is also a top priority feature for me.

Looks good! Where is the download link again? I bought into this last year and don't see a user account or anything like that on the website.
A well-behaved signature.

Hi! Just download Alpha again from the download link you received at purchase.

When I load Alpha Forever into Nuendo, Alpha Forever automatically switches Nuendo to surround (7.1), which I don't want. In the Plugin Manager of Nuendo, Alpha Forever is listed as a Surround plugin (7.1).
However, I don't want to start a surround project, but a stereo project.

Does Alpha Forever not have a .dll that is classified as stereo?

PS: Alpha Forever is great!

Thanks for the feedback! Are you able to use Alpha on a stereo track anyways? This reminds me of the issue with Adobe Premiere. It recognizes multichannel plugins as surround, but it's not even allowing to use them on stereo tracks.

The problem is easy to replicate. Create a new instrument (stereo track) in Nuendo, load Alpha Forever into it, the track switches from stereo to 7.1. Not possible to set it back to stereo. It stays 7.1. Check the mixer (F3) in Nuendo (maybe Cubase Pro too). Stereo Panner switches to Surround Panner (on all track). Showstopper.
As I have already written, Alpha Forever is excellent. There is really a lot of knowledge behind it. Respect. The sound quality is great, the GUI first class.
If only the problem with the surround track wasn't there. It would be great if you could check the case. Thank you.

Greetings from Munich....

We do not have Nuendo here to test, but this sounds really the same like in Adobe Premiere, so we can replicate this: it was considered a minor issue until now, since Premiere is really not a common thing to use with modular VST's (but it would make a lot of sense). The non-public VST3 solves this issue already, but it has some flaws that need to be solved, so we do not even think of releasing it yet.

We have tested this issue several times, and we know, if we limit the output channels to 2 channels only, the problem gets solved. We are sure, we do not want a different build for this, so we will have to find a way to maximize the number of audio output ports.

I hear you. I assume that the problem is the same in versions of Cubase that support surround. Maybe you will find a solution in one of the next releases. That would be great. All the best!

We discussed this already since your post, and we will try to solve it.

The demo version does not allow to copy/paste (patches could be pasted to notepad and saved that way - saving is disabled in the demo version). Copy / paste works flawlessly in the full version (even within Bitwig).
