Hello,

I am brand new to RC (v3.84 x64). Wow amazing tool. Amazing software. :tu:

I have gone through most of the videos and tend to learn software quickly. One question please.

I have a new drum track. I assigned it to a Play (AKA ComposerCloudX) VST kit. I can see and hear the drums correctly in the Phrase Editor. I can see but not cannot hear it in the Master Track interface or the Phrase Dialog (when one right-clicks on it from Master Track that is).

EDIT: Kit is using standard MIDI assignments.

EDIT2: Should I have purchased v4? I just noticed it was out. When I purchased the full version I thought 3.84 was the latest most stable version. Thanks.

What can you recommend?

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

yes, please definitely use v4.0.
Today I have sent the new license keys to everyone with a free upgrade.

You are right, there is something wrong with drum phrases when played back from the phrase inspector. The Percussion Generator playback works well, but if you drop a rhythm generator on a drum track, playback will be silent, and it starts to behave strangely. Is this what you experienced?

Thanks,
Attila

Yes it seems so. Making tests for the workaround you mentioned. I'll post my results.

Thanks.

...dropping the Percussion Generator worked well, playback was not silent.
I made sure to drop the Percussion Generator on a new track. Before dropping it I selected my Play\CoundCloud-X VST drums.

Results
1. I dropped the Percussion Generator on to the new track without issues.
2. Clicking on the track or right-clicking and trying to play it from the Phrase dialog did not work, i.e. I could not hear the drums.
3. Double-Clicking on the Percussion Generator and playing it from the full Phrase Editor works, i.e. yes I could hear it.

Desired Fix
To be able to play the Drums Track from the main interface in Composition view.

Please let me know what I can do to help you test and fix this.

Thank you,

Michael

Stop the presses...

I found that after I save the Composition it worked, i.e. I could hear the drums from the Composition view. Woohoo!

Don't forget I am new. Not sure if it is protocol to save the composition after adding a track. I thought I was.

I am going to recreate a new composition to duplicate my findings. I'll post here.

Hmmm...

I could not duplicate success. Creating a new Composition just as before resulted in the drums not being able to play from the Composition view. Even after Saving the Composition. Sorry I thought that was it.

I still was able to hear it from the Phrase Editor as before though.

Looking forward to your findings.

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

I uploaded v4.01 with some fixes for playback in the phrase inspector, and for drum tracks. It may fix this bug. Will you please check if using a soundfont or another VST plug-in behaves the same way?

Thanks,
Attila

Thanks Attila,

I am making the tests you recommended.

What Drums VST have you found works BEST for Rapid Composer?

Thanks,

Michael

Attila,

I have made several tests using your procedure after upgrading to latest version. Here are my findings:

1. The "GeneralUser GS-RC" soundfont works. :-)

2. The VST I use for drums (SoundCloud-X Play), which uses standard MIDI, does not work as a "Percussion Track". I could not hear the drum in any interface.

3. If I set the Track to "Normal", I can hear the drums from the Phrase Editor. This matches my findings from before. I did not know to set the track to "Percussion" being new.

4. While track set as Percussion, I also tried changing the Drum Map and Channel without success.

5. Interestingly my SoundCloud-X Play VST works with other sounds if I add other non-Percussion tracks (Bass, Piano, Orchestra etc.). Just drums do not work with RC.

Questions
1. What VSTs have you found to work with RC?
2. What else can you recommend?

Thanks,

Michael

For what it is worth... these are the VST's I use mostly with RC.

Thanks for sharing your VST list. That is very useful.

UPDATE:
I bought Addictive Drums 2. Problem solved. Works great. Great sounding drums!
I have to change some of the MIDI note mappings but that is very minor.

Thank you!

Michael
