Ryzen 7 5800x, which is a 550€ 105W TDP chip performs roughly twice as good as a 10W chip that comes in a 770€ computer?
i think AMD and intel both have to worry
i5 8600k performs roughly the same but it's a 95W TDP chip.

More points = more power
As mentioned before: Intel is currently a weak competitor to compare the M1. AMD is extremely strong when it comes towards performance.
ARM and M1 are excellent when it comes towards energy-efficiency. That's why these CPUs are used in mobile devices

We're running in circles already, but:
M1 absolutely slays within the same power envelope - no competition whatsoever.
The sheer fact that you can put a 10W M1 in the same column as 95W TDP chips is telling.
If they're able to scale that up to 65W/95W, they won't have any competition, not even from AMD, again, in the same power envelope.
Of course you can cool something with liquid nitrogen or launch it into vacuum, but that's not the point nor is it practical

So, ok, what's the price of a machine being able to run 400+ IR plugins (using an IR of 1.8 seconds) in Windows land?

You need to invest around €1000 for a great audio-machine in the windows-world.
if you need recommendations for hardware i can help. I am regularly building my own machines

Higher performing chips are generally poor value and less efficient than cheaper and slower ones.Ploki wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:33 pmwas this supposed to prove the excellency of M1 or lack of?Markus Krause wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:23 pm Benchmark Cinebench R23 multithread:

A truer comparison would be against something like an Intel NUC or ideally an AMD equivalent as they are in the same ballpark TDP; Anandtech shows the M1 to be a ~22W chip.
The M1 system will consume roughly half the power but the Ryzen will be roughly 30% faster in multi-core.
The M1 will win in single core so overall it's a massive win for Apple.
Ryzen will close the gap efficiency wise and improve performance once they use the same 5nm process as Apple and transition beyond Zen 2 on their mobile chips as they are a generation behind.
But you have to test with what is available now and Apple are killing it.
Price will depend on which end you are looking from.
The base M1s are cheap, but if you require a loaded one, a Ryzen will give you 4x times the RAM and double the storage and still cost less.
It has a higher base price but the upgrades are very cheap and go much higher.
64GB DDR4 3200 + 4TB PCIe 3.0 SSD < £750
Be interesting to see if Apple go all out to match/beat the Threadripper Workstations chips that AMD have.
Right now they are 64 Core on 7nm, but if Apple take 2 years to replace the Mac Pro, AMD may be on 96 Core/5nm with PCIe 5.0, DDR5.
That would really please the Apple video guys, but overkill for Audio.
The M1 if amazing, but not as amazing as you think when you look at the power efficiency versus the best in class for a similar power envelope.

Intel isnt the least bit worried. It has 80% of the desktop/laptop market. AMD has 20% and before you say Apple will change this. It took AMD 30 years to get to that 20%. TDP dosnt matter much with no expandability, small SSD storage and no repairability.Ploki wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:33 pmwas this supposed to prove the excellency of M1 or lack of?Markus Krause wrote: Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:23 pm Benchmark Cinebench R23 multithread:
