Load up the Speech plugin in FL Studio:pough wrote: Sun Nov 22, 2020 1:01 am Next blind fumble: use FL Studio for text to thingy and import into Vital. I have no clue at this point, but apparently it can be done. It's not as if I need all these robo-texts; I just want to learn processes.
Type whatever text you want and choose the "Personality" you want. Colossus gives a nice robotic voice. Try the others as they all give a different type of voice.
Hit accept and that will save the text file. Then all you have to do is enter a note in FL's Piano Roll then render the pattern to a wav file.
Then load that wav into Vital's WT Osc and follow the same procedures as the built in TTWT feature.
It's nice of Matt to remove the 5 TTWT daily limit until the 24th.

Thanks, Matt! I'm still not confident how to use TTWT and with the daily limit of five it was difficult to play around. Then again, only a couple of days until I'll buy the pro version...

After some more tests with this VSTi I come to conclusion that Vital has a clear but thin sound and the fiters are rather worse, because they always have a plastic and metallic character.
Also there are problems with very short attack and release times in the amp envelopes with pops and cracles.
In addition to this there exist no single trigger mode for envelopes and LFOs. In my view this is a lack of a basic a feature.
There also don't exist an option to switch off all this animations. In my view this is too much animations. This a virtual music instrument not game.
Next is that the wavetable you create are stored as a .vitaltable. In contrary to Serum you are not able to use these wavetable in other wavetable synths like Hive2, Serum etc.
Last the TTWT is overrated in my view, because it's difficult to create musical usefull words and sentences and you have to be online for this feature. All I have heard up to now is shitty.
Finally I don't use this VSTi in a music project, because of the bad sound quality, but it's a good start for a v.1.0 release. So hopefully the quality of oscillators and filters will be improved.
Therefore very good VSTis have a higher price, because the devs like from U-He have invested in sound-quality.

I don't think it sounds particularly 'thin'. Could a lack of low end be because of too much high end? I think the filters sound ok, although not amazing, who's gonna tell in the mix anyway? I find the animations a useful reminder of what's going on.
I don't understand what you mean by trigger mode.
Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I agree it can sound a bit thin in some scenarios, but it sounds good regardless. Also, I strongly disagree about the animations being too much. I didn't come from the generation of patch cables and oldschool hardware synths, so for me its awesome to be able to visually confirm what you believe you are hearing, and how the synth is behaving. I love that about Vital, and I think its something that sets it apart from a lot of other synths.MorpherX wrote: Sun Nov 22, 2020 9:57 am After some more tests with this VSTi I come to conclusion that Vital has a clear but thin sound and the fiters are rather worse, because they always have a plastic and metallic character.

Also yeah, you said in your view TTWT is over-rated, but personally I've already managed to make some awesome, musical phrases and sounds with it. Its just another tool you can use to be creative.
Even though you CAN make the synth sing, TTWT can also just be used to generate unique wavetables that you can make cool sounds with, sounds that dont sound like actual words at all. Just cool sounds. So rather than try and make sentences and words, you could try and make a pad, or a lead from it. Thats the fun of being creative, sometimes it doesnt work, but sometimes you discover something super cool

@MorpherX, wow, this synth really didn't tickle your fancy. That's fine, other mothers have beautiful synths, too. I've got to doubt the depth of your assessment, however. Like any versatile synth, it can be made to sound thin, fat, metallic, warm, whatever. The filters are not world class, but, again, very versatile. I'd call them above average, and that's more than enough to make good sounds. The LFOs have plenty of triggering options, which you would have noticed had you given the synth a bit more time than just flicking through a few presets. The TTWT feature is awesome, like Jkist stated - if you want a speech synth, look elsewhere. If you want something that extends your sound palette and fuels your creativity - yup.
Again, horses for courses, but I don't think you gave the synth a fair shake.

@MorpherX:
You need to find the sweet spot for the 2 filters, gain staging is really important in Vital. I find the filter really great.
Same for the envelopes, tweak them, use their curves and it sounds awesome.
About wavetable, you can export the wavetable in Wav format.
About lfo's, you can find a great selection of trigger options: trig, sync, one shot, 2 loop mode, and note off.
About envelopes gate input, Matt is interested to implement some new features, let's wait and see.
Perhaps, you should spend more time with the synth before trashing an awesome and free product.
My 2 cents.

That's disappointing I feel, as it's really the only thing I would have considered putting money down for, and as for the sound which I've not mentioned yet, it's to my ears, just too weak sounding... I'm sorry to say. That's compared to the other synths I have like Hive 2 to name just one.
Vital sound quality is better than that from Hive and Zebra. It has a clear sound that can be modelled via the filters, morph modes and effects. 10 minutes ago I made a ladder square/saw string sound with Vital which sounds soft, clear and full. It's not that awfull washer sound like from this Hive or Zebra and I have both to compare, so I hear what I am writing. I also tested the sound when Vital is in the mix with other vsti and especially there Vital sounds better.
Hive and Zebra have very good filters, but in the mix they sound not that good because you don't hear that.

A tips: set one oscillator volume to 11 o clock, and try the Ladder filter. Play with the drive, and if you need more resonance amount, just add a constant modulator and add some res amount.
A lot of parameters can go further than the max Ui amount, like in Zebra. Really useful.

I have a question with regard to the stereo lfo. My understanding is that the modulation of an lfo is applied to one channel with a certain delay, e.g. that the left channel is modulated first and after a slight delay the right channel's modulation kicks in. So one channel is ahead of the other one. Is is also possible to modulate the panning of the channels over time so that, e.g., the "earlier" channel goes from left to right?

Also be sure to save each of your TTWT results to a wavetable for later re-use. Even with the 5-per-day limit you can quickly build up a library of useful phrases.
