I honestly don't see much of a difference (MSoundFactory, SynthMaster2), that's why I responded the way I did. I thought you were trying to tell me they look the same, so there's no way someone would get a headache from it.

But now I'm curious, what differences do you see?
I see more high frequency content in Vital than for example in Dune 3's saw (or Hive or Sylenth 1). I don't know if that's what's causing your headaches but it's interesting to see.
Thank you so much for posting these images because the made me realize that my go to analyzer (MAnalyzer) only goes to 20kHz. So I loaded SPAN and made a shocking ( :D ) discovery: MSoundfactory and Synthmaster only generate harmonics until around 22kHz while Vital goes all the way to 24kHz.

Since my interface runs at 48kHz that makes sense, but I'm guessing there's something going wrong with the digital-to-analog conversion (I can't afford expensive equipment since I'm poor). When I add a steep low-pass filter at 20kHz to my master channel, vital sounds much better.

I learned something new today, yay.

This has just been released (I still didn't try it), but I remembered your talk about using a LPF to tame Vital's HF. Maybe it's a good solution?

I just tried Ultrasonic and according to the readout in SPAN it actually works to tame those high frequencies. Might be just what Held needs. :tu:

I'm using MBandpass from Meldaproduction which goes up to 120dB/Octave and I'm quite happy with it. But thank you for your suggestion :)

Why not try Ultrasonic just for grins and giggles to see if it works ? Pretty simple plugin that probably doesn't have the overhead of MBandpass.

I tried it. It works really well and it has a Linux version, so that's good.

I looked at the results in SPAN, and the Melda plugin starts cutting at around 18kHz already (the max frequency you can choose is 20kHz) and the curve isn't quite as steep as Ultrasonic.

I think they sound a little differently, but I can't decide which one sounds better. I can't really judge the CPU consumption with one instance because both are really low.

So for sake of simplicity, I guess I'll use Ultrasonic, although my feelings tell me that MBandpass is better. Do you really need any content above 18kHz? It's hard to make decisions when the differences are so negligible. Maybe someone with better ears in the high-end will have a stronger opinion.

is it safe to assume the site will crash tomorrow when everyone tries to grab the free version? :hihi:

I'm going to try throwing Ultrasonic on a whole mix to see if it has any effect. Chris' explanations can often be a little convoluted but it's worth a try.

It shouldn't crash. I have a serverless site so should scale to whatever load (hopefully).

Should be interesting see what the "It's Awesome" to the "It Sucks" ratio will be....... :hyper:

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?
