Supermassive uses a network with varying delay times, and is geared towards creating a complex mush of interacting delays. Diffuse has more straightforward delay controls, on which you can dial in beautiful smooth diffusion.
Basically Diffuse is much easier to control and I think smoother for a pure "diffuse delay" effect, while Supermassive can produce things that Diffuse cannot. To me they are complementary and it is usually obvious which one to use.

Wow! Great for Ambient especially on guitars
