Sorry. I actually did a quick search of this subforum for any recent posts about delays. If there was one recently, I must have missed it, but glad people are willing to oblige.

I've been looking into many of the great recommendations, so thank you.

Same here. Does everything, and it sounds better than any other delay I ever tried (yes, including VDelay).

We already had threads like these, but, we love lists here anyway. :D

I don't know why I am using so much delays but sometimes just the gui inspire me..
I mainly use AudioThing reels, the AudioThing space echo, Uad cooper time cube and UVIs relayer.

Post

for dedicated plugins i use Timeless 2, Dub X and MSpectralDelay, but i often just use the ones inside my synths.

If i was still on UAD, i'd surely also still be using the TimeCube

oh and i'm eagerly waiting for Ohmboyz Infinity to finally surface in a 100% stable form as i intend to replace Timeless 2 with it as it has a few features i'm missing in T2

The GAS is always greener on the other side!

If you want as simple a delay as possible, then get the free Kilohearts one.

https://kilohearts.com/products/delay

though you might as well get the free snapin and other freebies at the same time.

I've had a couple, but now I'm convinced that NI Replika XT is the beast when it comes to sound and overall musicality of the output. I also use Ableton Echo as a plan B.

Other freebies I used in a past - seemed great at that time, but Replika is simply better.

Replika XT was my favorite but since it will not install on my new machin i say Valhalla Delay.
But for specific use of my favorite kind of delay (BBD) Lunar Lander is my absolute Nr.1 anyway (but its not cheap plus it has a very very high quality plate reverb on board).
But yeah i guess price/versatility = Valhalla Delay.

I use quite a few, but I just have to mention the dark horse in the delay race: EARebound. It gives you control over 16 taps, and lets you effect each tap individually with chorus/tremolo, filters and a very crunchy and varied distortion section. Despite its complexity, it's very easy to set up, and has a useful random button to kickstart your creativity. Not your everyday delay, but something special. The filters and distortion have a very good sound, which doesn't come as a surprise if you know Eareckon's mixing pluggies. Feed it one little pluck or a hi-hat hit and create awesome rhythmic textures.

I really don't know why this one doesn't get mentioned more often. One of those things, I guess.

I don't own it, but UVI Relayer seems to be similar, with perhaps even more depth to it.

On a side note, I really wonder why people call Valhalla Delay "versatile". Don't get me wrong, I love it and it's one of my most-used plugins, but "versatile" is about the last thing I would call it. Just compare it to an options monster like Echoboy... or Replika XT. VDelay has a very focused feature set and just works, but it lacks a lot of options other delays have.

Post

Echoboy and Replica TX as "all-purpose" delays. But I also really like the three Arturia delays and whenever it fits the sound, I love using the Echorec from Pulsar. Also Colour Copy occasionally.

Post

Baby Audio Comeback Kid is currently my favorite. I still use Echoboy a lot, though.

  • Live's Delay for simple stuff
  • Valhalla Delay for all it's colors/possibilities
  • Tal Dub X for its filter modulation--much fun
  • Dedalus Delay--Max for Live device--crazy stuff, extreme sound altering, nasty metallic delay schmear noises
  • I just got TTAP as it seems to get some unique sounds--having fun with it
  • I've been waiting for Late Replies to sell for half off, and/or Relayer to go for $49 again
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

I tried the demo for a short period of time, but it didn't click with me (too much options maybe?); will demo some more. On the other hand, Tekturon was instant love; also much easier to program imho.

I freaking love delays.

Software:
Valhalla Delay is my #1. Lots of flavor and variety, simple controls.
Echo Cat is great for dirty tape delay.
Ratshack Reverb for its particular character.
Supermassive with the warp/density low.
Audiothing Wires a bit.
Permut8 once in a while for the glitch factor.

Eurorack:
Make Noise Mimeophon: fantastic, nice character, takes all kinds of modulation very well, works very well as a resonator/waveguide. My #1 hardware delay.
Happy Nerding FX Aid: several good delay algos on it, among other things. It's especially friendly to short delays with long feedback without blowing up.
SynthTech E520: There are some tasty delay algos on it, but I usually use the spectral effects instead.
Mutable Instruments [REDACTED]: :whistles:
Mutable Instruments Rings: if you drop the frequency low enough with an external voltage offset, it'll do lo-fi scuzzy digital delay/reverb.
Mutable Instruments Stages: can do dark lo-fi delays if you patch your own feedback.
