periodically the Dish Network turns on the premium channels so we common folk can see what we're missing
this weekend included 'Dig!'
chronicles 7 years of Brian Jonestown Massacre relationship with the Dandy Warhols
not that I was exceedingly familiar with either band, but really caught a lot of what makes the music 'industry' and the people that fuel it work or not. without the airplay and support the dandys got from Europe and the UK in particular they wouldn't be in business.
and then self-destructive behavior is always such a fascinating trainwreck entertainment. really raises a lot of issues about how 'pliable' creative songwriters should be in reaching out for a larger audience. while BJM obviously has some mental stability issues, it's not necessarily bad thing to see something fully real, if troubled/troubling.
later dandys interviews had an equally contemptible slime-- but maybe they've earned that right
anybody catch 'Dig!' on Sundance this weekend?

I watched parts of it on Sundance. I didn't watch all of it because drug abuse is something I can't stand. Funny, while I was watching I went to the Brian Jonestown Massacre website and there is a message about the film written by the lead singer:
