I'm demoing the PPG. I don't find it funny to program. Maybe it's me being tired today. I will try again tomorrow, but today's feelings are that once the novelty wears out it would sit there unused.

Told ya... the operation is a tad... antique. Which is understandable, considering the age of the original.rafa1981 wrote: Wed Dec 02, 2020 9:51 pm I'm demoing the PPG. I don't find it funny to program. Maybe it's me being tired today.

You guys need to know how this thing works. It's exactly like the original for the most part and worth the time.
TBH all you need is to set up an init patch (there is an option in edit menu) with only the main osc (digi section: sub waves=off) and amp (env 2). Open the filter and leave it alone for now.
Then you can explore the wavetables one by one (digi button) and sweep with the "modifier osc-waves knob" , env 1 waves and lfo to move the table. Slower is better.
It will be very nice I promise especially with the fx..sometimes just one point in the wavetable is enough.

There are some patches on the Wave that are quite lovely. Here's one, that I tweeked. It's through Wow Control, magicdeatheye and SIR3... (and a vocal sample through a giant reverb just for fun)

Lovely patch, really.
I followed yul's advice and not leaving the "digital" page helps.
The "envelope" page is mostly useless because of the control duplication. The "modulations" page doesn't have a lot of things going on, as the envelope modulations have knobs already, so there are few sources and destinations there, I guess it will be set and forget on that page: some small amounts for a little of variation and nothing more most of the time. The "fx" page might be useful, but I tend to start using fx when the patch is done, so no problem for it to be hidden. The workflow seems much better this way. Good advice yul.
The sounds while not extremely broad, have definitely character. The filter is very good too. Today I only programmed two patches and browsed for more patches. Most of them are boring 80's bread and butter, some have lovely digital edge. Next day I will just program it, but it seems that at the current price it might come home after all.

Good to hear you are giving it a chance. You are on the right track.rafa1981 wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 8:49 pm The "envelope" page is mostly useless because of the control duplication. Modulation seems a bit boring but the MW(mod wheel) allows to assign an LFO to wavescanning. Use your KB or mod wheel on the pluging Its pretty nifty.
You can also assign key tracking to wavescanning..again quite interesting.
Add some good ole chorus, reverb and delay and you're good to go.
P.s: every wavetable has 4 odd waveforms at the end. They are all the same (tri, square etc). You can adjust to ensure you either hit or miss it
Also if you go beyond the normal ranges, you get into "upper waves" territory. It's really gritty. You can also access upper waves in the digi menu directly..

I didn't expect this thing to make industrial sounds that easily. Programming this is more about experimentation and happy accidents than to try to do a given sound beforehand.
The other (non-classic) wavetables rule, but there are no factory patches showing them. Dual, quad and mono voicing modes make it pretty fat, especially by tweaking each voice's filter cutoff and resonance. It sucks at pads big time though, but there are other synths. I'm buying, no doubt, it has a lot of character. Thanks dul for your advice on how to operate it, I was going to pass.

Also, True PPG and Tube buttons should always be enabled.

That's funny, one of the first useable sounds i found was a pad. We must have different taste!rafa1981 wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:01 pm It sucks at pads big time though, but there are other synths.

thanks for the tips on how to use PPG! didn't dive in to yet, but i like these kind of synths.
this will jump start exploring, and i do RTFM, but jump starting, is also nice..
EDIT: walforf largo i acquired a half year ago. geat metallic sound, and beyond, metallic is somewhat limited term for what it can do. but "metal" from gary numan, gives a broader perspective (this has nothing to do with largo, nor;)
and PPG 3.v i bought several days ago. on top of a lot of BF.. so exploring time, now..

Hi everyone,
Do the NKS files for Largo and PPG 3.V include sound previews for each patch, as well? I have installed the Largo NKS files, but don't hear any sound previews - are these supposed to be downloaded separately?

I have previews for both, I don't know if they came with the Waldorf installers or NI one but I do know I didn't need to download them seperately.
