If it's not Terrence McKenna quotes, I'm not interestedpdxindy wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 4:07 pm Slightly updated version. My first attempt to make realistic words.

For choir type sounds, Vital is excellent. Can be quite realistic sounding. Gotta explore word phrases a bit more. They are trickier to get to sound natural. Overall the Text to Wavetable function is impressive though some letters are hard to get to sound right. Vital is for sure my favorite vocal synth at this point!

but that so obviously is a terence mckenna quote; you just have to be in the right 'place' to get it...PieBerger wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 8:20 pmIf it's not Terrence McKenna quotes, I'm not interestedpdxindy wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 4:07 pm Slightly updated version. That theory presupposes that mac/win operating systems be ever more bloated, with software products keeping pace, each new OS version and world-class software product relegating more hardware to the recycle bins or landfills, and coercing new purchases from the government, business, and education sectors, as well as from enthusiasts and sole proprietors.Teksonik wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:57 pm I have a theory that free synths tend to attract people who through no fault of their own can't afford the latest in hardware specs.
Vital seems to buck a few trends. It's marketing is flexible, it's cross-platform, and it's very easy for anyone to modify, create, and import sounds. Vital is like a lady who smiles when being noticed from across the room, and will become popular because of being friendly.
Cheers

Ha! I have spent some time with Vital. Outside of the massive CPU hit (much higher than Serum or even Diva!), it is quite a nice VST that can carve out a niche in the crowded WT world. Vital isn't a killer of anything, but it isn't just a retread WT synth. I like it. Due to Vital's inordinate CPU inefficiency, it is, effectively, a working "demo" VST for me. When Matt can get the CPU hit under control, I will go pro.
Vital and, especially, Plasmonic are two quite unique and viable breaths of fresh air that may change some things in the VST world. Or maybe push other developers to get moving and innovate?

That theory presupposes nothing about operating systems although I know you are a fan of Linux as am I but if you're running Linux on an under powered system you'll still be one of those people complaining about Vital's CPU demand.glokraw wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:17 pmThat theory presupposes that mac/win operating systems be ever more bloated, with software products keeping pace, each new OS version and world-class software product relegating more hardware to the recycle bins or landfills, and coercing new purchases from the government, business, and education sectors, as well as from enthusiasts and sole proprietors.Teksonik wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 6:57 pm I have a theory that free synths tend to attract people who through no fault of their own can't afford the latest in hardware specs.
No argument there but that has nothing to do with what I was sayingglokraw wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:17 pmVital seems to buck a few trends. It's marketing is flexible, it's cross-platform, and it's very easy for anyone to modify, create, and import sounds.
Vital is like a lady who will have sex with you for free but she does demand that you be at least fairly well endowed.glokraw wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:17 pmVital is like a lady who smiles when being noticed from across the room, and will become popular because of being friendly.

So this kinda got lost in the fray but I can at least answer it:fgimian wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 9:34 amYep, I did notice that but what I was attempting to say was that the intensity of the LFO simply wasn't anywhere near that of using another oscillator.
Do you happen to have an example simple preset which uses an LFO for FM in a more "extreme" way?
For example, attempt to get a similar sound to using Osc 2 with a sine wave and using an oscillator effect slot to set Osc 1 to use Osc 2 for FM, the sound is very very different. Using Osc 2 provides significantly more extreme FM compared to a keytracked LFO.
Perhaps I'm missing something though, really hope so!
Using an LFO to mod phase can only push the modulation as far as the control allows. It can only modulate it between 0 and 360 degrees, because that's the limit of the parameter.
Regular FM (from oscillator) can go a lot further than that.

f**k knows what was going on with Vital but I fired it up last Saturday, just as I had done two and three days previously, and the filter was quite different. All of a sudden there was depth to the amount of resonance available. As far as I could tell I had done nothing differently, I was just getting very different results from it. And the different filter types actually started to sound a bit different, where before the Ladder filter sounded much the same as the Analog and Dirty types.
I had assumed that maybe it had auto-updated but, judging from Matt's post about the filters, I don't think that was the case. Whatever, it's way more usable now. The filters aren't stellar by any measure but, like PhasePlant and Equator, they are at least useful.
But, man! It was so frustrating when some people are saying "the filters sound perfectly OK, what are you on about?" and what I was hearing was basically worthless garbage. So if anyone was upset by my venting of said frustration, then I can only say - grow up and stop acting like babies.

downloaded this on a whim.
this might be kind of jumping the gun but after a few minutes i think this is the best software synth i have.
I was like "if this has FM between oscilators, this is the best vsti i own now"
and i found it. and i said, "this is it."

i beg to differ. it kills several synths i have used. i don't want to offend other developers but whateverHTT wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:31 pmVital isn't a killer of anything, but it isn't just a retread WT synth. I like it.
-phase plant is 90% killed
-serum is killed
-falcon will not be needed for wavetable now
-ableton wavetable is not needed and i will not open it again
this is better. it is extremely rapid to use, it sounds VERY good, and it has advanced capabilities. it's like someone took exactly what i wanted to have in a wavetable synth and put it together.
believe me, I expected it to be complete dog*hit, i'm only making this post because I'm surprised and very pleased that it's not just another crap
