idiot
Why would someone install version 4.22 now? It was released in April 2012. If he's been 'evaluating' since then, for commercial purposes... phew.
With any other DAW software, for example FL Studio, you can keep the trial for as long as you like and continue to use it to test plugins. You cannot, of course, use it as a DAW. Testing plugins is not evaluating the DAW. I see no problem here.

I see no FL Studio or any other DAW on that screenshot, I see Reaper. Can you quote me the part of Reaper's evaluation license granting those rights?

It doesn't grant me the right to drink coffee while I am using it, but that won't stop me.

doesn't say anywhere on the site you can't, maybe you can quote where it does, just for clarity

You can't use Reaper to drink coffee, do you? You must be trolling...

The license seems pretty clear. In case you are not trolling.
1.2 License After Trial Period. If you continue to use this Software after the Trial Period, you are required to purchase a license. The license fee varies according to your use, as follows:
a) A commercial license currently is $225.00 USD.
b) The following users are granted permission to purchase a discounted license for $60 USD:
i) You are an individual, using REAPER® only for personal and non-commercial uses.
ii) You are either an individual or business, using REAPER® for a commercial purpose, and your annual gross revenue derived from commercial activity does not exceed $20,000 USD.
iii) You are an educational or other non-profit organization.

No, I'm making a valid point concerning the difference between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. Did you really not see the parallel I was making? :dog:

Even though I don't think the topic is nearly interesting enough to make such a big deal out of it... I still wonder why he "leaks" screenshot with an ancient, probably expired trial version of Reaper. I somehow doubt he's too poor to be able to afford a DAW.

I bought MasterLimiter 50% off and will get MMG1 for free. Can't complain really.. :tu:

Exactly, he is a software developer on a first world country making money by selling commercial products. He is leeching the other dev's work for profit and he's not smart enough to hide it. Unless he's going for a Ryanair style marketing campaign, which I doubt.

It's not that I care a lot either, I and almost everyone has done much worse things to others than pirating software. My initial comment was just "reaper evaluation license", three words. What suprised me more was the reaction of some people approving it.

Developers posts a screenshot of reaper that might be passed it’s demo period , .
Might be , or not , what gives you the right to publicly shame the developer if you don’t even know for sure ?

Backround:
  • The 60 day demo period is cumulative, so you can't reinstall a machine and demo again if you already demoed. The same with virtual machines.
  • The trial license doesn't grant special rights for developing plugins (or JSFX).
  • A plugin developer has to constantly iterate doing changes and trying the results somehow, most use a DAW.
Facts:
  • He's a dev since at least 2013.
  • He is showing a trial license on a very old Reaper version.
  • He is hinting he prototypes on Reaper.
So yes, of course if this would be a trial there is not enough evidence to be 100% sure to force someone to jail or big fines. I would never want that.

But this is not a trial with life-changing consequences, this is just random no ones talking on a forum.

The fact is that he did a textbook PR mistake. If he reads KVR and thinks that this is damaging for his reputation he has the chance to just clarify and say "I was too lazy to download the key of my old Reaper version for that machine and I was having a bad day and I didn't notice it on the screenshot" or whatever, show a Reaper license and move on. Everyone happy.

Finally, I for sure have the right to express my opinions of a company based on the evidence they provide, people does that all the time (IK Multimedia, PA, NI, Izotope...). If you don't think so, you can't stop it.

For example people whose arguments are so weak that they have to resort to personal attacks and name calling, yet while having lives so full, they keep the thread alive damaging even more the dev's reputation which they say to care about.
