The future of Geist 2

As I bought Geist 2, it crashed again and again and because the support didn't help me, I wanted my money back. Of course I didn't get it back. Since that time I never used it again and I would sell it, but they want 50$ license transfer fee. But that's also no problem, because I will save much money in the future, one more company on my lifetime blacklist!

I bought Geist 1 and was a beta tester or Geist 2 before I got Ableton.
Geist's layering, kits, built-in FX, and all in one sequencing are the attractions for me.
But IMO there was a lot of functionality added between v. 1 and 2 that make Geist feel more bloated and complicated, and something I can't explain broke in the mapping for my Akai MPD32.

On the other hand, they work. For me at least. I dont need any new features. In terms of UX refinements, perhaps but I am used to Geist2 and BFD3 and if they stayed as-is and continued to work across current OSs and DAWs that's all I need. Both are very capable/excellent audio products IMHO. I use them often.mholloway wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 7:44 pm let's be honest, it's been clear for about 2 years that FXpansion is a smelly corpse, and going nowhere. Their line of products is full-price legacy-ware at this point -- that is, what's left of it. The only 'update' we are likely to see for their entire catalog is *maybe* some small updates to Cypher.
RIP. They had some good products while it lasted.

I got alot of love for Geist2 and Fxpansion, not sure what they've been up to lately, but I'd love to see a Geist 3 in the works, with better chopping, and a much better browser, better support for working with other kits / importing Akai .pgm's +.xpm's

How is Geist better for polyrhythms? Ableton is fairly easy to set up, you just drag audio to the rack pads. Aren't you doing virtually the same thing in Geist?vertibration wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 3:58 pm Goldbaby has free MPC swings for Geist, and regarding Ableton, Geist 2 does polyrhythms, Ableton is a pain in the ass to set up for that. So that is why Geist 2 is the superior drum machine to use in Ableton than stock. Not to mention, the effects section and trans mod system are clutch

Goldbaby has also "swing score files" from the most important drum machines for FL Studio and there you can use them really (!) free!vertibration wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 3:58 pm Goldbaby has free MPC swings for Geist, and regarding Ableton, Geist 2 does polyrhythms, Ableton is a pain in the ass to set up for that. just drag samples to the rack pads? Is that it? LMAOKinh wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 3:42 amHow is Geist better for polyrhythms? Ableton is fairly easy to set up, you just drag audio to the rack pads. Let me help you.....With the exception of Live 11, which has probability, in order to set up polyrhythms in Live 10 without a M4L device, you would have to set up multiple tracks to trigger each hit, and each track has to have a different length. This is not faster than Geist 2 at all. You can set up polyrhythms in the session view, and in the clip view, you can set your time signatures.
There is no way in hell Ableton 10 can do Polyrhythm better than Geist.
Frankly, even with Live 11 probability, and after trying it, I still think Geist 2 is better, and faster.

Luckily for me Geist2 has been nothing but stable. I don't really get why people think it's bloated. Maybe the GUI looks more overwhelming that it is? I mean sure, it has a ton of features, but I really only use the ones that I need. For example I almost never slice up loops, but it's nice to know I can if I wanted to. For my purposes the workflow is super fast, much faster than Ableton, and I love how easy it is to bring a lot of variation and randomness into my sequences.

I can't give you anything back other than that, think of it like helping a future artist along their way.
