Agreed. He's also just a really really cool guy. So, definitely not his style.revvy wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 9:12 am Steve Duda is a solid dev, can't imagine forum shit stirrers are his doing.

Serum is a synth with lot's of code from other developers ( just check the about page ) , as opposed to vital .clipnotic wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 3:06 am"My" synth is Serum, CPU friendly, great and outstanding filter quality, endless great soundbanks ... so, there's no need for a clone. If I would program my own synth, I would program a completely different one! And I'm also collecting thumb down votes![]()
Kudos to the vital developer for achieving this all by himself

I listened to a Mr Bill podcast and heard that Matt coded this thing from the ground up.
An outstanding feat that surely deserves a Tesla
The Mr Bill Pod for anyone interested.

One thing I'm having fun with is taking another synth, selecting a patch with some motion, render it to wave and then drag 'n drop it on to the Osc window and select "Pitch Slice".
It creates a nice wavetable with plenty of motion when swept with an LFO etc. It doesn't create an exact copy of the other patch so it's not like your reinventing the wheel.
For example try the "ETE Breath Softly" patch in Hive 2. Program a single C note in your piano roll and render it to wave. Then drag that wave into Vital's Osc window and select Pitch Slice. Then put it in motion by applying an LFO to the WT Frame.
Yields a very nice WT full of motion.

I'm just bitter that you managed to do strikethrough text and every tine I try, like just now by copy/pasting from Word (on a Mac), it doesn't work...

Great tip Teksonic will have to try that -- I've been so consumed with mic recording WTs I haven't even begun looking at using other synth sampling.Teksonik wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 3:34 pm One thing I'm having fun with is taking another synth, selecting a patch with some motion, render it to wave and then drag 'n drop it on to the Osc window and select "Pitch Slice".

I know I’m going to get bulldozed for this but I think that there should be a “limited” version only for free.
There is still the impression out there that “you get what you pay for” you know what I mean?
I paid good money for Serum and I love it and I got Vital for $20 (and I’m contemplating if I should get the Pro or the Subscription) and I know I would have paid for Vital a full regular price.
I hope Matt will earn a good leaving from his work since I consider Vital a real gift to musicians.

We are in a new era, we slowly learn that there is no need to get forced to support some work we love. The easiest way in this case is to start the subscription. You can stop it any time start again any time you feel moved.
The advantage for the developer is, that he gets much better feedback about the usability for the people. If he would shell it out with a high price, he would get some money flood for a short time, with this model he would get a more constant flow and the hurdle for users is as low as it can be to jump on the adventure with Vital...
I still pay 1 $ a month to the Ardour project, though I rarely use it. All together I paid more than the license for Reaper, but I think this is worthwhile to support anyway...
Not all is about business and competition for the highest profit. Sometimes it can be fun to just radiate yourself...

Matt is smart enough not to have a corporate structure such as NI,with team of over paid "experts" sucking on the company tits...liquidsound wrote: Sat Dec 05, 2020 5:17 pm I know I’m going to get bulldozed for this but I think that there should be a “limited” version only for free.

They do very little in terms of end product development, but they get generous salaries to preside over the ad campaigns and the bean counting...
Matt is doing direct marketing and Vital has generated a real buzz through word of mouth that a lot of other companies can only dream about...
They pay big bucks for ad campaigns created by their over paid experts that don't generate anywhere close to the traction that Vital has generated in such a short space of time...
It's safe to say that in an overcrowded marketplace, Vital has made a bit of a dent
Vital is a game changer and unless some of those other companies change their game, they might find that they have been checkmated by a smarter breed of players who keep their company structure tight and the product line bright
Vital is a winner in so many ways
