Fwiw, I think all the transitions will materialize way faster than people might've thought at first.
People just want these M1 machines - so software developers pretty much have to follow. In addition, Rosetta 2 seems to do a marvellous job, so in case your software is running fine under Rosetta, developers won't have to hurry all *that* much.

Oh, but not all is always great. Today I experienced something with the Omnisphere and Keyscape. In general it runs fine and I can run so much more of it now and I also could set the preload memory to minimum to even same RAM if needed (its not really for me).
But I now heard that when I have a GUI open (which is a bit sluggish, but I had that also before on my intel, until an update) it adds really much latency to the audio. If I close the GUI, all is fine again. So with open GUI its not usable for live playing so far sadly.
Not sure if that is related to the M1 architecture.
All is on the latest updates, so yeah, native plug-ins are needed for the full experience maybe here. I mean I have no problem since I always close the GUI mostly and just play (because of that I did not noticed this issue until now). So be aware of some things.
I am also not sure if I had the same problems on my intel with Big Sur. I cannot compare it anymore since my old is gone now.
In general everything which makes some trouble seems to be related to GUI when it comes to the new machine.

There's also a video of a guy running Studio One in Rosetta mode, experiencing plenty of graphic glitches. So maybe that's one of the things really requiring natively recoded/recompiled plugins.

It seems that Repro suffers from the same issue, if the GUI is open I get terrible latency which gets better after some seconds but still not great.
So yeah, it is not all good via Rosetta yet it seems.
I wonder why that has all to do with open GUI since my old one has much much worse gpu performance.

Its a bit mixed bag so I now started Logic in native ARM (where plug-ins get translated via Rosetta in a hidden task I guess) version then Repro works fine and Spectrasonics plug-ins seems also not suffer from the latency then but some other plug-ins not working in this mode at all or crashing Logic or even worse I got some totally GUI mixed up from Falcon which stays in the background even if I gone outside from Logic. It just disappeared when I closed Logic.Ploki wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:16 pm thankfully u-he afaik will have native builds ready. i have a buyer coming in tomorrow after which i'll probably buy an M1 13", and if it works better than my mini i7, i'm selling that as well and waiting for an M1X/whatever mini
Again it seems all related to some GUI things when try to open a GUI or sometimes a GUI just opens once and then hangs forever at the start where it seems to translate via Rosetta which happens in the first second or so every time you open a plug-in GUI.
Maybe not quite ready for primetime if you have a lot of plug-ins.
I mean I can live almost with only Logic alone so for now I can live with it until native ARM versions arrive. I just will leave the other developers which cannot deliver within 6 months or so. Maybe a good time to get rid of my bloat.

We will see. Nice is if all gone worse I still could send my MacBook back until 8th of January, so much extra time to test but I really like this machine.Ploki wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 8:40 pm GUI is broken on intel big sur as well tho. :/
so these might start working fine when Big Sur is supported at least.

Got to play on the M1 mbp at Best Buy earlier today. Launched logic and played around with some tracks. I was amazed by the speed of it and it was only the 8gb model. Definitely going to get the 16gb model next week.

Now that the hype of the new Apple silicon is starting to die down, and leaks of new processors with up to 32 cores are emerging, how will professionals view a new Mac Pro which is non upgrade-able ?
Or will the new models have to include the ability to upgrade the ram as a very least option ?
How will pros feel about having a clutch of external hard drives and cables hanging out of the back of a $10,000 new machine ?

The Mac Pros allow for expanding mass storage internally. In fact, there's plenty of space, at least inside the actual models.dellboy wrote: Thu Dec 10, 2020 9:38 am How will pros feel about having a clutch of external hard drives and cables hanging out of the back of a $10,000 new machine ?
