I might be in at $100 but no more.
No one can argue with personal Perceived value.
I own both and I still use Serum most of the time while I’m learning to define Vital’s role in my music.

I really like Vital btw.

i sold serum when Hive inherited wavetables.
i never felt like i need more from WTs, but Vital imo is what serum v2 could've been if it existed

as someone who digs vital and never got into serum... man, the 'serum killer' stuff is lame as hell.

it obviously makes sense to compare them, and I'm not accusing anyone here of doing this thing - but there's a particular flavour of hypebeast youtuber-with-14yo-subs-using-cracked-FL "OMG SERUMS DED???" clickbait bs that's depressing and mostly just demonstrates an ignorance of all the other brilliant not-serum plugins that have come out since 2014

It is indeed. I think Matt himself said that Vital is not intended to be a Serum emulation or "Killer".

They are two different synths in the same market niche. So I guess the inevitable This versus That videos and discussions are to be expected.

It's sort of an addiction at KVR.

Still, I buy after the useless test is performed :tu:

This also reminds me of the initial Bitwig release. People were unbelievable nasty and degrading because it was supposed to be all copied from Live and bad and missing this and that and whatnot - "Live Killer" was thrown around a lot back then too. The devs were accused of creating "all that hype" - which they never did. They were totally surprised by all the interest and hubub even the first beta website created . It was all in peoples heads.
In the meantime I think it's clearly visible that it's it's own thing. It does many things better than Live, others it doesn't. Some people switched, some didn't, some use both.

This is the initial Vital release and all the so-called "hype" isn't from Matt AFAICS but from people who either make a living from sensationalism or from people who are partly stockholm-syndromed by earlier investments (or whatever makes it important for them to diminish Vital ;-) ).
For a version 1.0.3, it's fabulous, the release went smoother than many big companies can claim and even if there are some small niggles left I personally am amazed how profession it all went.
Kudos to Matt!

But at the end of the day:
It's a soft-synth. Either it works for you or it doesn't, either you like the sound or you don't.

it's not really funny. i have ppl here insisting that notes above C4 actually sound, and now i need to rethink all my music (and/or stick with trap beats)...

Just as a casual observer at the Vital forum it seems like at least some of those niggles are caused by people trying to run a modern plugin on ancient hardware or in DAWs of dubious legality.

One guy complaining of problems in FL Studio admitted to using an ancient cracked version. None of the people who I advised to bring up issues with FL Studio at the Image-Line forum have done it so make of that what you will. You have to be a registered user to post there.

I think if you take away those issues the release has gone a lot smoother than it might appear.

Yes there are things to address but as you say it's only at version 1.0.3 so I'm sure as time goes on things will only get better.

So what's the recommended oversampling setting?
