hmmm ... remember that thing called buzz and its buzz machines ? With generators and effects ?Of the available options, C. Steinberg started this whole VST thing, so he da king.
shoot me if i'm wrong but i don't think that there was vst back in 1997.
So probably we should vote oskari temmelin as the most important audio soft developer of all times.
On the other hands, wasn't steinberg's cubase the first midi sequencer ? And wasn't steinberg involved in the creation of the midi standard itself (shoot me again if i'm wrong again

I don't know who the best one is... but these are pretty good:
- Aleksey Vaneev (Voxengo) - incredible service!
- Brian Clevinger (NI)
- FXpansion
- GMedia
- OhmForce
- René Ceballos (rgc:audio)
- ConcreteFX
- the freeware makers!
- Steinberg (for inventing ASIO and VST)
All these companies really seem to give a damn (well, except you know who)
Of course, there are many others I'm not experienced with yet. And all the people I forgot to mention...

No shooting, you're right. Buzz could have been a revolutionary, world-wide cross-platform standard that changed the way musicians regard computers, but... it's not.Deed wrote:hmmm ... remember that thing called buzz and its buzz machines ? With generators and effects ?![]()

It might well be that Charlie was "inspired" by Oskari's work, but all the great ideas have roots in Finland anyway- no need to make a number out of it

In no particular order I might have voted for:
Propellerheads
Ableton
Syntrillium/Adobe
Kjaerhus Audio
Sonic Foundry/Sony
NONE of which are even listed

I just find funy on how divided can people be. See, on the "Worst developer ever" thread. Steinberg and Emapple are the TOP ones. But so they are here on the "Best" list!
Anyway, another one missing on the list: NewStyle - creators of the AXS synth years ago.

What does that have to do with being divided?WilliamK wrote:I just find funy on how divided can people be. See, on the "Worst developer ever" thread. Steinberg and Emapple are the TOP ones. But so they are here on the "Best" list!

They are the biggest developers, hence it's very likely that both a lot of people love them and that a lot of people hate them.
A small almost unknown developer will not have a lot of people swearing by nor at them.

What about the guys who did "Reality" years ago? They are still working with it. Just too bad is no XP compatible.
