I don't need a lot of features. I am looking for a synth that will just play without a lot of fiddling around once I plug in my USB keyboard. I am trying to avoid Logic, because that takes a lot of fiddling. Thanks.

Have you tried GarageBand? I believe there’s a stripped down version of Alchemy, and GB is stupid easy to get your head around, in addition to being free to Mac users. GB also has a new Model 15 synth. If you visit the App Store, you may find a free standing soft synth, but I never hear people talk much about those. Usually you need some kind of AU/VST host, or a standalone host like Reaktor Player, which may be something you could also check out.

All the Arturia and Applied Acoustics synths/keys include standalone app versions (as well as plugins). G-Force also, and I'm sure there are others.

You could also look into the great little Hosting AU utility. Super fast startup, perfect for a quick play, and hosts AU effect plugs as well.
