The wt and noise sample are embedded into the preset.( like the majority of wt synth). If you use a single waveform and a short noise loop, presets are light.SoundHunterrr wrote: Thu Dec 10, 2020 7:22 pmThis is very heavy for disk space! Is this something the developer will improve any news? Or will this preset format stay like this = heavy for disk space?ahanysz wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 12:07 am Wow, the preset format is so verbose! Nearly half a gigabyte for just over 500 presets. It looks like all the wavetable data is copied into each preset in plain text format, even where it's a factory wavetable. I guess that makes it easier to share presets (no worries about whether you've got the right wavetables installed, everything is always embedded), but it chews through the disk space.
Another thought: with the presets in text (json) format, it opens the door for third parties to create preset randomisers by editing the text files.

i'll definitely check it out when you release it... ie give it a chance...Whywhy wrote: Fri Dec 11, 2020 2:45 am I take note!
It's more a challenge and an experience!
Make this kind of demonstration presets is challenging with a 3 oscillators and a noise source, without any external sample and external processing!
For sure, I will go back to sound design exploration-:)

I mentioned this in the other thread, but maybe it will help a preset collector,
to maintain vital mental health
I got an archive of Vital presets from Discord containing several more archives each containing a folder holding dozens of preset contributor subfolders, each containing .vital presets. To help avoid incurring carpal tunnel symptoms, in a folder containing the author's folders, create a Presets folder. Go back up into parent folder, and issue this command:
find . -name "*.vital" -exec cp {} Presets \;
This will snoop in all those contributor folders, find files
with a .vital extension, and copy them to the Presets folder you made.
From there, you can move them around as desired. Maybe do
mkdir /home/me/.local/share/vital/Presets/discord-sounds
I think I had 6 archives, and ran the above command for each of them
when unarchived, yielding around 570 presets, which are now in the Vital
preset areas.

Thanks for the tip, I've saved it in a text file that lives in my Vital directory just in case I top up on another batch of Vital presets.glokraw wrote: Fri Dec 11, 2020 10:21 am I mentioned this in the other thread, but maybe it will help a preset collector,

So far, I only see one sound set entry being shared on the KVR soundset page for Vital:
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/vital- ... tel/sounds
I guess I expected there would be more there by now.

I suppose complete sound sets take a while and by the time someone has done so, which obviously takes a lot of time it becomes tempting to just sell them. That is the trend.
Looking through the archives of Kvr is quite interesting, the further back you go in time the more freebies you seem to find although some of the links are so old they no longer contain anything.
My point being is the Kvr user base seems to have become more focused on selling than giving these days.
I blame the millennial's myself
A mercenary bunch who won't do anything unless there is cash in it. lol

I just saved the init patch and opened it in a text editor. It seems to embed all three wave tables and the noise sample, even though three of those four things are turned off and not used in the patch. Is that usual? Can it be improved?Whywhy wrote: Fri Dec 11, 2020 2:47 am The wt and noise sample are embedded into the preset.( like the majority of wt synth). If you use a single waveform and a short noise loop, presets are light.

I just picked up some very nice Virus TI wavetables for Vital from-
https://www.adamszabo.com/vstplugins/viper/
Scroll down a bit to find them.
Not sure about the legality of use though after reading this in the included txt file.
"The samples contained in this zip file are the intellectual property of Access Music Electronics GmbH. They gave Adam Szabo permission to sample the waveforms/wavetables from the Virus, and upload them to www.adamszabo.com.
All samples may be downloaded but are restricted to personal use only! You are not allowed to bundle them in any kind of product either free or commercial. The samples should not be uploaded anywhere else, they should only be accessible from www.adamszabo.com
The .wav files are watermarked in case of theft. Please respect the terms of usage!"
Seems a bit heavy to watermark the intellectual property of Access Music Electronics GmbH.

Is there a particular location where user wavetables and lfo shapes are meant to be placed? (on Mac)

I am watermarking my work, not the intellectual property of Access. I want to know if someone steals those waves which I painstakingly sampled, and claiming it their own samples.Markin wrote: Sat Dec 12, 2020 11:31 am Seems a bit heavy to watermark the intellectual property of Access Music Electronics GmbH.

How can someone steal something that is freely available?adamtrance wrote: Sat Dec 12, 2020 12:05 pm

I do understand you have taken the time to sample the hardware and I thank you for that.
But in my mind the original waves belong to Access and not you.
Perhaps it would be better to reword the txt file and remove the word theft?
Try to appeal towards fair usage and so on.

Yes the waveforms belong to access, which is of artistic value. But I didnt hack and go in the Virus and extract the waveforms, I dont even know what format they are in. The .wav files, which I made, are mine. Its whats inside them that they represent, are the property of Access.Markin wrote: Sat Dec 12, 2020 12:26 pm But in my mind the original waves belong to Access and not you.
Anyway, I see your point, but I had to use these words to be 100% honest with someone who wants to "steal" them. Trust me, there will be some assholes who take it, combine it with other wavetables and start selling it as "mega wavetable edm pack for serum and vital volume 2", or some shit like that, and I find my wavetables there, that is considered theft in my book.
EDIT: I replaced the word "theft", for people who get hung up on these things, so now we can finally sleep well tonight, the world can continue turning, and life can go on

In the Factory folder there are WTs so I added a folder I had DL'd inside. When I tried to access them via the GUI, they weren't immediately visible so I selected 'Add Folder, found the new folder where I'd placed it and bingo, located and usable.
Sure I've done it in some weird-ass way but it worked and was quicker than searching (still no manual, right?)

I really don't think there is any way you will ever stop people from assimilating everything that is available.
I perhaps should make it clear that your Virus TI wavetables are the most accurate representation of the original waveforms.
I have previously tried and tested most of the mega downloads as well as the PietW Virus tables which for reasons that are beyond the scope of my technical knowledge don't work as intended.
Anyway I am sorry to disrupt this thread I was just pointing other Vital users to some good tables to fill up on

Except you don't actually have to move your folders anywhere, just point towards them with "Add folder". That way you just add your different folders wherever they are on your disk. I find it a lot more convenient than Hive's way of handling it, because in Hive, if I want to use Serum's WTs, I have to copy Serum's WT folder in Hive's WT folder. In Vital you just indicate where to find them.
On the other hand, I have no clue how it works for LFO shapes, I didn't even find how to save one...
Back to topic, I'd be happy to share some presets I made, but I use a lot of WT's from Serum and Hive, I guess there's no way I can share the presets publicly even for free?
