Wine-staging 5.22 and Reaper 5.9 in Ubuntu Studio 20.04
I bought SM2 a few days ago, and I'm having some issues on Manjaro with wine-staging 5.22. Maybe you could help me find the causes.

Can you download preset packs through the shop? I have to run it as root and copy the presets over if I want to download them.

Also, could you please check the preset "ST FM Strings 2 MS" for me, please. It doesn't produce any sound and OSC1+2 are a straight line instead of a sine.

I would really like to use SM2 because it sounds great, but so far it's been mostly annoying me.

That preset seems to be odd in all 3 of my different synthmasters setups. The patch almost plays OK in some. In V2.9 with wine 5.21, I get random stuck notes until the voice count option is lowered to 4 (top center of the main gui). But it only plays 2 or 3 notes, instead of 4 :dog: It could be a wine weirdness, or just a rare sloppy preset. Changing periods/buffer in qjackctl didn't change things, nor did switching quality settings in Synthmaster, I inquired at the beta 2.9.9 topic, for someone to test the preset (presumablty in windows)

In wine 5.22 and Synthmaster beta 2.9.9, I get silence like you did, until
I turned on layer two, which was stuck-note-city :o But I didn't yet think to lower the voice count at that point, so give it a try, (I did discover some fun new seq presets while trying to unstickkkkkkkkk stuck notes along the way :hihi: :hyper: )

Also, when using the Synthmaster Tranquil Blue skin, the whole plugin seems to respond better, and the layout is different, but as good or better. Right-click on a blank spot in the gui for the extra menus

Some SynthMaster user were reporting similar issues, turns out some older presets
were unhappy with progress. A new fixed release will come in the next day or two

Thanks for letting me know about your experience. I went back to 2.9.8, and the presets work for me fine there. I think there's some issue basic oscillator type in the beta, but hopefully that gets fixed with the new version mentioned in the other thread.

Here's the new AVLinux distro with it's pre-installed wine-staging 5.22
running Reaper, hosting the 32 bit Arptron synth, with it's midi-out
beating the tar out of Battery 4's 'Best Of Absynth' drumkit. The AVLinux iso image is at www.bandshed.net 3.6 gig, so can be burned to dvd or a
usbstick to test. Arptron is free at www.vst4free.com and Battery4
is on holiday sale from Native Instruments, and also lurking somewhere within

Have to pinch myself sometimes, when using the worlds elite music software
on a cd sized linux like the Puppy linux variant, Bionic64. I wonder how big
windows 10 is by now :? and hope I'll never find out from personal experience.

Did you do anything special to install Hybrid? I managed to install the iLok Manager, but the Hybrid (and xPand!2) setup doesn't even start. I'm using wine-staging 5.21 (I tried 5.22, but it didn't help and produces weird graphical artifacts) on Manjaro Linux.

(the last sentance below, from a dev, may be important)

This is I think the default wine-staging 5.22 as supplied in
AVLinux which is now built on an MX Linux core system with xfce.
I copied over several standard plugin folders from a Ubuntu wine 5.22,
(along with the reg files found in drive_c -to avoid pointless reinstalls
of some commercial products) You can get AVLinux from

www.bandshed.net and burn a dvd or use a usbstick, and compare things.

The standard MX Linux distro is at https://mxlinux.org/

The LinVst dev wrote this recently at the linux reaper forum:

"Don't know if it helps but I did test iLok out with some plugins and this is what I did,

I tried the iLok (software) out with the WaveArts Masterverb vst3 and LinVst3.

No overrides or anything else installed, just basic Wine Staging 5.13.

MX Linux, Wine Staging 5.13.

I installed the iLok License Manager (using Wine) and then opened up an account.

I then installed the WaveArts Masterb vst3 with iLok support (using Wine) and set it up using LinVst3.

First Reaper scan needed me to login to my iLok account for the WaveArts MasterVerb trial license and after that WaveArts MasterVerb ended up running ok.

The WaveArts MasterReverb license shows up in the iLok Licence Manager.

I don't know if it matters, but I had the iLok License Manager running and was logged into it while the WaveArts MasterVerb vst3 was being scanned. "

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. Since you didn't do anything special, I tried it with a fresh wineprefix, and it works now. Thanks :)

Glad it's working. I'd forgotten that installers for extra Hybrid
presets integrate them into the main preset menu without text feedback. I spent a few minutes trying to find them in folders somewhere :dog:

Found a review that mentions a few interesting capabilities:

Since Santa didn't bring me a new drummachine :( I went on
walkabout in hopes of finding one somewhere in the outback. After trudging down the usual trails, I came upon a free version of Rayzoon Jamstix, and dragged it back to camp. The installation in AVLinux 2020 was pretty normal, and when I started it in wine/Reaper, it sat there like a toad...but after gathering some firewood and how-2 data, it seems you have to load a style, a drummer, and a kit, which can be done by clicking on the 'Song' button, found on the left edge of the gui about 29% down from the top. Having a go at the manual shows a lot of midi capabilities, and using the Reaper transport and live-output capture, the blues and bossanova beats I recorded sounded fine. There are some tick-boxes below the song button, for maintaining the beat as desired.

https://www.rayzoon2.com/docs/jamstix4_manual.pdf

I'll install this in Ubuntu Studio later, which utilizes the nVidia driver on my old nVidia
pcie card, which should help the visuals, which function a bit slow in this particular linux setup. I'd say Jamstix will appeal to the perfectionists, and also benefit those just needing some good sounding fundamental beats, and the full version is priced nicely
