Here's an article that details the recording of the song: https://www.soundonsound.com/people/cla ... are-people
At the time the band was heavily influenced by the industrial scene and made a lot of drum sounds themselves. Apparantly this song used the Synclavier and the Drumulator to sample sounds. Most of those came from various field recordings.

^^ excellent find
There is also this interview with Dave Gahan about creating the drum sounds for the song by recording kitchen utensils etc:

As per the above SOS article, the band owned / had access to a Synclavier, Drumulator, Emulator 1 and Emulator 2 samplers by 1984, so some combination of these would have been used to get the original drum sound recordings ready for sampling / playback.

Yes, there's a bit of video I've seen where they were chucking things around the studio to record the sound for subsequent sampling as part of getting the sounds together for Construction Time Again. Things like bouncing marbles so they can slow the sound down.RugerioDelStereo wrote: Sun Dec 13, 2020 7:41 am Here's an article that details the recording of the song: https://www.soundonsound.com/people/cla ... are-people
