What’s your impression of the new Arturia Jupe compared to TAL?EvilDragon wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 7:40 pmYes but v4 is a complete rewrite DSP-wise, so it's really been out for a week.![]()

Arturia's is surprisingly good, but TAL's has a better GUI that doesn't force skeuomorphism on you with a ton of wasted screen space. In a lot of cases RC version still sounds the most visceral to me, but its constant CPU drain that no matter if you play a voice or not is superbly annoying.
At any rate, we're spoiled for choice if we want a good JP-8 emulation these days. TAL's is the cheapest, though, and you can't beat his support and turnaround speed on bugfixes!

And you can't do it polyphonically, but that's a given...AnX wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:58 pmyou can do that in any host really, an lfo to anythinghimalaya wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:33 pmHaving extended modulation on such emulated synths is definitely a bonus, especially when it comes to a few more LFOs. Normally, I'd want one LFO for PWM, and another for vibrato or subtle detuning duties. But a third could be easily used to make a rhythmic patch (perhaps with a ramp LFO assigned to the LFP cutoff).4damind wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 6:23 pm
Arturia is also better with the additional features like modulation,
Start with the authentic emulated, vintage tone, but push it slightly beyond the original with a few mod tricks not available on the original.
you can't save it as a preset to share, but that's really not an issue

I feel pretty much the same. The options are pretty close in terms of quality. I hate that there are still many sounds that I like best in the RC version, but they are Roland, they are used to copying their own synths. All of the Jup versions have a bit of the dev sound in it. The Tal Jup sound like Tal, the Arturia Jup sounds like Arturia, the Diva Jup sounds like Diva. Same in the case of RC, it sounds like Roland. And in the case of a jupiter, that has an advantage.EvilDragon wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 7:46 pm Arturia's is surprisingly good, but TAL's has a better GUI that doesn't force skeuomorphism on you with a ton of wasted screen space. I am sure if you could explain/describe in words what you like more about the RC version, it might be helpful to Patrick.
He seemed to be quite please how spot on it was with his specific Jupiter 8.

If you're completely not fussed about authenticity to the real hardware then compared with Arturia the main difference is in the patches. Arturia has more of them and you can tell they're made by seasoned patch designers - they're pretty much mix ready.

There's something about how much "in your face" RC version sounds. Really hard to put into words...
Roland was also nice to include an 18 dB/oct filter type that was not there in the original, this is not there in either Arturia nor TAL. I like the Calibration options that TAL gives, which are not there in either Arturia or RC versions.
So yeah... pros and cons in every version. Except we know Patrick really listens and continuously improves on everything.

I think Arturia add ons are really great (but may not be in Tal's ethos) but you can tell that Arturia spent money on their patches.
I want to get it just for that.

I hope I am allowed to say this.
His Jupiter 8 only goes up to 20 HZ Lfo Rate, so his software version only did. And that is where wcruz came in. He mentioned in another thread that the real jupiter goes up to 40 Hz. so I looked in the manual and indeed it did.
Communicated that to Patrick and the next morning I had a build which went up to 40 Hz.

This was my impression when I compared TAL Juno vs Roland Cloud. Roland Cloud sounded better somehow, but TAL was a best product overall: best GUI and good CPU usage (well, I tested in the first versions of Roland Cloud, where the CPU usage was atrocious, it seems it got better these days).EvilDragon wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 7:46 pm Arturia's is surprisingly good, but TAL's has a better GUI that doesn't force skeuomorphism on you with a ton of wasted screen space.
