When opting for the 6-output mode, there is quite some clipping in my DAW. What am I doing wrong?
The 2-output mode sounds fine, but I don't really hear that Jupiter-8 mojo, frankly.

I'd have a tough time putting that into words. I'm finding that I prefer the Tal version about 60-70% of the time. But the Roland jupiter has this super sparky top end that gives it this sort of sheen and grit and thickness all at the same time. The PD Jupiter Glide patch is a good example. But this also affects some other patches. It also shows in some arp patches like SQ Jumpin' Apg where there is just this really juicy top end.zvenx wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 8:08 pm I am sure if you could explain/describe in words what you like more about the RC version, it might be helpful to Patrick.
He seemed to be quite please how spot on it was with his specific Jupiter 8.

Like I said though, there's lost of sounds I like better on the Tal version. I especially like turning up the VCO calibration knob on the TAl Jup, makes it bright and grungy.
Edit: And by the way, I'm not claiming that the RC version is necessarily more accurate. I've never owned a Jupiter-8. From what I've seen on youtube demos, the Tal version seems incredibly accurate. There are just some sounds in the Roland version that are really cool, not even sure if the hardware sounds the same!
I gotta say though, this amount of noise in a demo is a bit over the top!

I wanna know why SC panel only has controls for 8 voices when there are 12 voices max.
There are also typos in there (Cutof instead of Cutoff, k missing from Attack and y missing from Decay). Plenty of width there to space those knobs out more to fit the parameter names fully.
The sentence "You maybe play a chord to tune it by ear" is also slightly weird. It can work without the "you maybe" part
This one is actually found in all SC panels across all TAL products that have them.
Also it would be REALLY AWESOME if voice numbers (1-8, or I hope 1-12 if we get an expanded panel after this post
) would glow up when they are actually played. This way you can see more easily what exactly you're tweaking!

Well, there kind of is. It's called the Roland Service Manual. It's fairly specific about scope settings / timings.
Oberheim's service manual tells users to calibrate it to just before the point of self-resonance. However, a fair number of users figured out that ignoring this, and setting the calibration to use the full range of the hardware, results in a sound they prefer. When OB-Xa V was released, there were complaints because the filter didn't scream, resonance was too tame, Arturia once again not knowing what they were doing...
In the meantime they plublished some SW/HW direct comparisons which were pretty much spot-on, and when Obsession (which I have complete faith it sounds "right") was launched shortly after, the filter also didn't scream and had similarly tame resonance. Still, they sound different, and they're modelled after different 40 years old units.
It changes the filter sound before it reaches self-resonance too, and is the prime reason (rather than 40 year old magic unicorn dust) that you can easily find audio examples which are different. It's a relatively simple synth to calibrate, and I think the pan trimpots almost kind of encouraged its users in that direction. By contrast the Jupiter 8 is (by many reports) a longer process, where they expect you to do things in multiple steps, and I doubt very many Jupiter 8 users have attempted to calibrate their own synths..

Holy crap this a dream come true synth!
TAL U-No-LX is an all-time favorite plugin for me. This takes that UI and crams in all the Jupiter features, most important being a second oscillator and all the possibilities therein. YESSSS.
I love how the UI and setup (e.g. things like the Velocity sliders) feel identical to U-No-LX, just with...all the extra programming goodness of the Jupiter.
Well done TAL! One of the best devs out there, absolute. The TAL take on the Roland filters continues to be my fav in the game.

Still very confused by TAL's implementation of delay timing.....why does the "1/8 ." (dotted 8th) setting on the delay effect sound like a rapid-fire 16th note (or faster) delay ? Surely that can't be right....

Depends on Spread parameter too. If you want exact dotted eights, Spread should be at 12 o'clock. With Spread spread out to the sides (sic), it actually splits the delay time between the sides too...

I think he might have assumed it was a typo. Since his hardware only did 20Hz.

Tomorrow's build will have lower levels and shorter time span of noise.

Hmm possible, but strange that it is exactly half of the 40 Hz.
