I really love this so far BTW. It's less strident sounding than the Roland Cloud version. A little chunkier in the resonance with a snappier attack. Just feels like it has a wider sweet spot. Haven't messed around yet with crossmod yet, but it's not a feature I ever used a ton. So far I'm super impressed.

EvilDragon wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 11:51 pm Aha so if you set max poly to 8 it's 8 for both upper and lower, so ACTUAL max poly is 16. OK that's confusing and unlike the original :)
Yes, I had asked him about this during testing. (which is why I said it confidently :))
rsp
Yeah that's very very confusing. Not a fan.

Post

Ok..
Whole mode it sets the polyphony.
Dual or Split mode the polyphony is twice that amount..

e-crooner wrote: Mon Dec 14, 2020 11:23 pm Not sure how it was on the hardware, but I find it odd that the velocity sensitivity slider for the filter works the other way round as the one for the amp. I.e. with the amp one, when set to max, I have to hit the key very hard to get the same sound as with the min setting, while with the filter one the harder I hit the key, the further away I get from the sound at the min setting.
Simple: the hardware had no velocity sensitivity :P

The AMP velocity scales the level. The filter velocity, on the other hand, is absolute: using it directly affects filter cutoff, rather than scaling the env > filter slider. His Juno emulation behaves the same way.

It's pretty standard to have amp modulators scale the Amp level, though, since Env + Amp settings are an expected, hardwired thing. Shrug.
OK. On Retrologue 2 the sliders for both the amp and the filter work the same way, so I merely found it unusual in this new plugin :)

RC then Arturia then TAL. I tried to get oscs as dead on as possible. On RC getting to this point was only possible when setting Condition all the way to the left, but it's still materially impossible to tune it as dead as TAL is. You can see it on the waveform too... I refuse to believe hardware is like this :)

Moreover - this is just with middle C. If I play any other note with either RC or Arturia, they do get different beatings. TAL just stays flaaaaaaaaaaat all the way no matter which note I play. I love TAL and Patrick, but this is not right :)
I think it's a good "option" to have even though it's not the authentic behavior. But you can still fine tune osc2 to -/+ 0.1 cent to get the expected phasing.

Post

Sure I just don't think that's a good way to do that, because it takes away from the authenticity when just tweaking the synth around. There should be that global trimpot like what Arturia has, at the very least. Just my 2c.

What I wrote makes no sense. Sorry.
Long day.
SC is per voice not oscillator.
My bad

zvenx wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 12:19 am Also wouldn't a setting in SC 'fix' this?
Like set it in SC and save that as your default preset?
rsp

No, it doesn't, because that's only between voices, not between individual oscillators of a particular voice.

Also, two UX things:

1. Mousewheel on Voices parameters, PLEASE!

2. Double-clicking the LFO Rate slider puts it at 0.06 Hz which is not very useful (or 10/1 in synced mode)... Should be around 5 Hz IMHO.

Comparable issue to the arpeggiator rate fader.
Default (double-click) value is at minimum, which is very slow.

Is that thing still in the beta test phase? 8)

If it wasn't for the Jup-8 V4, I think they would have taken a little more time.
But at that point, getting out fast, even with release candidate versions probably was the right thing to do.

Technically, yes! v1.1.2RC

I'm actually really digging this new preset browser. Faster, more straight-forward and elegant than previous TAL preset browsers (thinking mostly of Sampler....)

Post

In case no one noticed, this is the first TAL synth to be released as a Universal Binary 2 for Mac. It would be a fun one to see how many of these things we can pile up in Logic Pro X without crushing the CPU. I'd try it, but my M1 Mini is dedicated to my live streaming setup.

So do I buy BOTH Arturia and TAL? Ha.
