Not true. Whilst indeed the Arturia release came as a surprise, i doubt it influenced the release date. For the most part it was ready over ten days ago but Patrick wanted to spend more time comparing it to the hardware and doing minor tweaks as necessary. (Which he did).

Well.. In Solo mode, the envelope should be mono retriggered don't? By example, using the patch Cars Sync from Jupiter Factory, in solo mode, playing a trill, the envelope should not retrigger for every note. Old Jup-8 from Arturia didn't worked that way and they fixed on the new Jup-8 V4...

Just enable portamento ( set to ON ) and set portamento value to zero
Same trick applies to talmod for playing legato

almost works... but it seems that some portamento sill happens when portamento is on and potamento time is zero.

I believe Patrick is looking into this... your car sync example definitely shows that there is an issue.
It seems to have issues if your polyphony is I think it is 4 i found out, not sure, and you switch to solo mode.
If you drop your polyphony to 1 or 2 you should be fine till the fix.

I compared the Tal and Arturia Jupiters yesterday to my hardware version and IMHO Arturia's version is closer to the hardware,
BUT the Tal J-8 is a very nice synth !
I think it would have been better if he gave it his own name instead of "accurate" Jupiter 8 emulation.
This way comparisons are avoided and people can enjoy the synth for what it is.. a very good synth with Jupiter DNA.

Well.. Patrick did what he considers an accurate emulation of his own J8, and I really doubt he'd be satisfied with something with a lesser quality than his brand standards.

Well, did a fast comparison between the 3 jupiters (Arturia Jup-8 V3, Jup-8 V4 demo and TAL J-8) and I really like J-8. I compared the common factory presets between the 3. I know that it's not a really scientific comparison because presets are not implemented equally between the 3, each implementation has some detail on the factory presets wrong, but i'm okay with this for now.

J-8 sounds good. Some missing details as others have already pointed in the thread, but Patrick is a careful developer and I know that he will get everything sorted in some weeks.

A thing that I wanted to ask for a long time and it's valid for the Juno emulation: any reason for not having a global Service Control setting? IMHO, a global service control setting for the presets that don''t have it set would be awesome.

Someone on gearslutz said they compared the J-8 to their hardware and said it sounded 'more real' than the Roland (I don't believe he mentioned doing an Arturia test).

What I can say with absolute certainty is that this would have been released before the Arturia one if Patrick did not want it to match completely his hardware, so he took extra time to go back and make sure it matched his Jupiter 8.
So indeed for him, it is an accurate emulation of his J-8.

AFAIK, he also exchanged the crossmod direction on DIVA.

This is a beautiful thing. I can hear tracks exploding out of this synth for me. Timeless sounds for 60 bucks. Unbelievable deal.

Super weird thing: if I start from default plugin state when it opens, set both oscillators to 8' and no finetuning, it sounds dead flat. No beating between oscillators. I refuse to believe this is how the actual hardware unit behaves

The attack is also pretty consistent, as if the oscillators were phase-locked or something, similar to the Juno if I remember correctly.

Not sure it is a bad thing, though, as one can remove it by fine-detuning, if necessary.

Juno has DCOs so yeah they're phase-locked to the master crystal clock, but Jupiter has proper VCOs and they are NOT phase-locked in the same way (unless you engage sync of course).


It is kind of a bad thing if this is supposed to be an emulation of a VCO analog.

I think I agree that there should at least be a mode where it behaves like the real thing and doesn't lock. That's fine to have a "perfect" oscillator mode, but there should be a setting for it to be like the hardware and not be perfectly in phase on reset to default value.
