Fine tuning the OSC2 is NOT the same as having free running OSCs. It's not only about the beating or pulsating which is a result of slightly different tuning. It is also about the start-phase. Analog Synths don't start an OSC when you press a key, they start when you boot up your device and run continuously until you switch off the Synth.sinemotor wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 12:07 am I think it's a good "option" to have even though it's not the authentic behavior. But you can still fine tune osc2 to -/+ 0.1 cent to get the expected phasing.
Pressing a key changes the voltage for controlling the frequency and opens the gate for letting the VCO-signal pass thru the filter and then the amp. But if you'd bypass the filter and amp circuits and connect the VCO directly to the output jacks, you'd get a continous sound without even pressing a key.
What that gives is a constantely changing start phase when you actually press a key and open the gate. That makes the attack organic and ever changing.
Constant start phase as in the J-8 makes the basic OSC-sound a bit boring and less organic, as it is the same everytime you press a key.
That was one of the serious problems of Arturias first modelling attempts some years ago and probably one reason they got the reputation of "not sounding very analog". They improved over time and I would really like to see TAL correct that behaviour on the J-8 as well.

That is exactly true.
I will still purchase J-8 to support Patrick, but I expect this to be fixed. You should NOT be able to deaden the oscillators completely just by tweaking fine tune.

Just a funny observation:
I'm not 100% sure about this and i won't search for proof, but i seem to recall some people who now say how good/great it sounds stated in other threads not too long ago that a Jupiter sounds nothing special, maybe even generic-ish.
Regarding my opinion:
haven't tried it yet. As gentleclockdivider also stated, i would have preferred some improvements to TAL Mod (and Sampler)
I'm generally not the biggest fan of more or less strict emulations though.
Why not a “new“ synth that just happens to sound like a Jupiter on many settings, but without most idiosyncrasies of the HW originals taken over that were there most likely simply due to cost constraints.
Will try at some point though, as TAL rules!
Still would have preferred some advancements to Mod as i think it sounds f**king brilliant. With J8 it would mean several steps back regarding flexibility, even if i preferred it's pure tonality.
And even Mod is far from being the most complicated / feature rich synth on the planet.
Of course features aren't everything and sometimes more is less. But i'm actually looking for something in the ballpark of TAL Mod with still a few more features, not less.

If you’re willing to spend some time learning the gui and signal flow , I highly recommend Tranzistow .

Yes, i'm aware of it, but the user interface is actually intimidating (for me)
It's a thin line though. TAL Mod has about the right balance of great, quick and intuitive workflow and complexity for my taste, even if some things still could be improved (IMO).
I actually don't want it to compete with some of the most complex synths on the planet.

Amazingly, Tal-Mod is my least favourite Tal synth.
Either way I would be shocked if Patrick doesn't have plans for a Tal-mod feature update at some point too.

You need to tweak it more. It sounds spectacular.

Oh I wasn't saying I didn't like it, just that it is my least favourite
That is I prefer Juno 60, Basslines and J-8 more.

Yes, I recall seeing this a lot too.FapFilter wrote: Tue Dec 15, 2020 10:06 am Just a funny observation:

But well, this video proof some Jupiter-8 coolness (or maybe it's just Matt Johnson coolness?)
