Can't really fathom why some like jup 8 but dislike talmod
Only difference in talmod is that syncmaster ( OSC 3 ) can not be crossmodulated ( the other osc's can ) , and o.k. it doesn't sound like a Jup but it does sound great .
The filter section is ultra flexible and sounds top notch

I'm not 100% sure about this and i won't search for proof, but i seem to recall some people who now say how good/great it sounds stated in other threads not too long ago that a Jupiter sounds nothing special, maybe even generic-ish.

Yeah it doesn't seem to freerun. It doesn't even seem to start the voices with random osc phases, which would help at least to some extent...

So this is literally impossible to make happen on a real VCO analog while having osc 1 and osc 2 same volume and you just tweak osc 2 finetune knob. LITERALLY impossible:

Cool, I'll give the demo another go then. I managed to get a nice filter sweep patch before the old demo noise put me in a homicidal rage.

I don't care if it sounds like a real Jupiter or not or any of the other minutia complaints I only care about how it sounds right now, what kind of patches I can get out of it, and whether it adds anything to my current arsenal.

Many soft synths are stellar in their own right and have no (possible) HW equivalent.

And J-8 is a cool SW clone of a HW synth that doesn't cost $16K.

I'm not super excited about the original either (maybe you even mean me by what you said, lol). TAL J-8 seems like a fun synth though. Would I buy it? Probably not, unless they do a 50% off sale at some time. I'm just not in the market for any new soft synth ATM, unless something really special comes around.

That said, hey, Jupiter-8, often sought after legendary vintage synth, so, not much to not like here, I guess. Watching the Jamiroquai guy video, though, it once again reminds me why the Jup-8 is not quite my favorite when it comes to analog synths. I'm not too much of a Roland guy anyway, apart from the JP-8000, which probably a lot of the analog fanatics would wrinkle their noses about. The Jupiter-8 just sounds a tad cold/clinical compared to other analogs. Just my opinion. It doesn't sound anything near bad, it's just that I prefer more warmth/creaminess.

I must say he's really selling the synth in his video though. Some very musical stuff there. That's the difference right there: Most people who do such videos simply don't have the musical background and ear. You simply hear that it's made by a guy whose profession is music.

In Live 10, Mojave 10.14.6, the back/fwd preset arrowv are erratic and most often jump 2 or 3 presets ahead of the next one. Also, some arps don't synchronise with the DAW tempo.

I've got a System-8 that I use as a hardware controller. Works pretty well when it comes to the "hands on" experience. If you play a lot of synths, buying a nice hardware synth as a controller will be a worthwhile addition to your setup. And if you need to gig, even better, you can take it with you.

Yeah, I think that's the major point here. Absolutely ridiculously insane used price for the real deal. If the TAL one even just is/would be 90% there, it's a big argument that it costs only a fraction of that.

Are you sure the Arp is set to External not Internal?
