I vaguely remember a similar thread, but, don't think I'd find it now. :)

Sometimes, when you listen to music, you recognize some standard sound or sequence from a very well known patch, or a arp from a well known synth. I remember I heard one of the Reason factory library arpeggios in quite a few tracks, for example, or one of the Z3TA arps.

Recently, I've spotted the default 303 patch sequence, which is the first patch which plays, when you open Sylenth1, in this track, starting at about 4:07:

Feel free to post the stuff you found in other tracks, I'd be interested. Always funny when you walk across one of those well known patches.

Not a preset but there was a time in the late 2000s when the Massive Modern Talking wavetable took over electronic music.
Signatures are so early 2000s.

Then there's that Fairlight patch I've heard in many tracks..

For instance Shout by Tears for Fears and Changes by Yes.

This is the Z3TA arp I meant, by the way:

Can't really remember the track though... it was some Chillout track I probably heard on DI.fm.

I heard once the unaltered preset of metaphysical function (factory Reaktor patch), I think it was Exx, in a documentary as soundtrack...

Another sound I spotted. Belo Horizonte PK, patch 8 from Dune CM, starting at 2:14:

I remember hearing a lot of Absynth presets in the soundtracks for the F.E.A.R. games and others. For example, there was a train ride/battle where the "Abyss" preset was prominently used.

And not exactly "synths" per se, but you basically can't throw a stick without hitting a soundtrack full of Heavyocity's Evolve and Damage libraries. Or that riser-ish "Oilcan/Rusty Spoke" sound from Spectrasonics stuff.

However, I don't scoff at people for using the packaged presets... that's what they're there for, to be useful, right? I just think "Oh cool, it's that sound from [insert product name]" whenever I recognize one.

Absolutely. That's what this thread is about. :)

Although I must admit that it strikes me as a bit funny sometimes that the producers even use the preset's sequence or arpeggio. But, that makes it very recognizable of course.

With the track I just posted above, I was wondering "Hmm... you know that melody... is it a remix of a track you heard before? You know the melody, and you know the sound." Then I remember that I heard the sound in ol' Dune CM, which I haven't used in years. Installed it again, and, yep, there it was. 8th patch of the sound bank. Very nice sound BTW, definitely my favorite in the factory sound bank.

For me it works mostly the other way around. I hear these preset arps and sequences in a synth released in the past 20 years and they bring back the memories of songs from 90s where I first heard those. Z3ta is a classic example of that, full of patterns from the times past...

Of course not to take anything away from the topic, surely there are plenty of people making sure the recycled patterns get a new life. But no wonder some get the inkling of it being just rehashing the same old s... .. :( ..
