I am glad JP6K found some new love ;) Yes the "JP" refers to the JP-8080, but since it doesnt have all the features as a full 8080 I had to call it JP-6000 but then I changed it to JP6K to make it shorter.
Echoes in the Attic wrote: Wed Dec 16, 2020 3:42 pm It is nice sounding, and I like how straight forward it is, but I don't really understand leaving out the other oscillator waveform shapes?
JP6K was based on my thesis of the Supersaw oscillator and I made a synth out of it. The scope wasnt to recreate the entire 8080. That could be a project for the future but it wont be soon, there are lots of other things I have to finish first.

I see. Would be cool jut to have the basic other shapes - Square, triangle etc. Not necessarily the feedback osc and all that.

I'd rather see some cross-mod options. Yes a bit of PWM might be nice but I'd rather have Hard Sync. That said, I am perfectly happy with it the way it is. It's relative simplicity is one of its attractions for me.

Maybe adjusting the topic title with the name of the developer would avoid confussion
It's not in the Hardware forum, it's in Instruments, so it should be obvious we're talking about a softsynth.

I didn't know it existed until yesterday but I am absolutely loving it. I bought Viper as well but last night I spent about 10 minutes with Viper and three hours with JP6K. The combination of the oscillators and LP Filter is just awesome!

Just bought this on sale. It's a really cool simple synth. JP6K was never on my radar since I reckoned I have Spire and that does supersaws and way more.

Yes. Its short for Jupiter 8000. It's the successor to the Jupiter 8.

Apart from the sound, the thing I liked the most about JP6k is the way I can adjust the detuning and mix with such ease with those two knobs and how it is set up visually. I also appreciate the fact that the detuning and gain parameters are based on real JP8k data and are not just simple linear detune and gain values. Makes all the difference for the original supersaw sound, as much as this sound engine is able to achieve that. Adam's Bachelor’s Thesis about that subject is enlightening.

That's my perception as well TBH, especially as you can also emulate the detuning with Spire's oscillators.

That presumes the only purpose of it is to sound like some ancient, crappy V/A synth from the 90s, which is a very narrow point of view on what is a very capable, great sounding synth.

What i don't understand is why such a simple synth needs a switch button to edit either upper or lower layer. Could easily be all in one page imo, enough space on the gui.

I just love it when others focus on cloning old analogs, you recreate (old) trance machines  :D

So I finally decided to buy it to. I suppo6 this is a promo price?
It's the best supersaw synth on the market. I like it more than Dune 3, Spire or any other synth. Jp6k has more depth and a bit of grit while others sound clinically clean.
I'll definitely use it when I find inspiration and spare time to make some classic trance tunes :) and I can't wait to use it in other genres to.

Funny you mention DUNE because I've been at Rich since the beta for the first DUNE to do a cut-down synth with less features, just so I could use the supersaw sound. And it turns out JP6K also has a great filter, very much like the filters in Wasp, which was where DUNE sort of came from.

I'm OK with that, it's the little "MORE" button in the Filter section that I find a bit obscure/annoying.

Yes there are some things I would change on the GUI as well, this was my first synth and I still had to learn about GUI and layout, I would do it differently now. At some point I do want to revisit the JP8080 again and start from scratch and then it will be much better.

JP6K is still a great synth for Trance /EDM. Lightweight and great sounding synth. Maybe one day the extra features will be added but right now its perfect. :)

Yeah, I can see myself using this for a long time, like FBM's MonoFury. Sometimes an instrument just clicks and you know almost straight away that it's a keeper.
