Could you do me a favour please?
Start with the default patch and put it in solo mode and try a trill and see if you get legato.
Or even try the Neg Plug Patch before Car Sync and put it in solo mode.

(I don't think there really may be a free oscillator issue tbh)

edit: Honky Tonk does it too, but not Clav and not the other patch after it... Really odd.

works fine from the default patch, works when soloing some patches, and fails with others. But I'm sure that patrick will find the culprit sooner or later!

my money is on a VSP bank before the year is out....complete with a paragraph about how it was their fav synth back in the day, just like all the others

does Patrick even read this thread, is he aware of the high karate kicks Evil Drag is delivering to his face?

or he's safe in his underground bunker?

how could one say he loves and appreciates someone, and then soak that person's work in a fecal matter publicly in the open. it's a dickish move. that's what happens when people are emotionally dead and can't express love properly, so it ends up in a damage instead.

I mean, if you really care for the guy, use the bloody support form to submit your critics, aye?

No dick move, just speaking his mind.
It’s called constructive criticism. A lot of people obviously can’t handle it, where as others work with it day in, day out & often improve because if it. I’m sure most devs rely on it to release the best product they can.

Post

yeah, it's criticism alright, but it's not love and appreciation, by any means.

because something was said along the lines of "love and appreciation" for Patrick. well, if that's the case, there are correct channels for critics, objective or not. doing it in his face in the open hardly qualifies as "love for the guy".

it's not love. it's the same old passive aggressive stuff and we have loads and loads of that already. too long in the tooth.

Post

You're reading into it too much. Passive aggressive? Nah that's not me. Forums are there to express thoughts and criticism and laudations all the same, or is that also forbidden now? Please.

Heaven forbid something posts something critical out in the open. We all need only praises. Right?

I never mince my words for anyone. And yes, it's genuinely possible to appreciate and love one's work while still being critical of it and nitpicking the details. Believe it or not.

Also, I never soaked anything in fecal matter. Just showcased audio demo comparisons and exposing what is factual state of how J-8 is vs expectations of how a VCO analog should be. How is that anything else but critical testing and exploration? Shaking my head.

Post

For the record, here's an audio example from an actual 12-bit JP-8 owner trying to set the oscillators perfectly dead in phase like you can easily achieve on J-8. It's not happening, there's always some very very slow phasing happening.

diff synths innit

Post

Well the only difference being in the DAC used to convert digitally stored patch values into control voltages. 4096 vs 16384 levels, which does give you more precision indeed, but you still kinda depend on how good the potentiometer used to set the finetuning is and how close it can get you to those 16k values...

Post

yeah, but as every dev keeps telling us, no two units are the same :hihi:

Post

That's true enough, and this also shows when you compare RC vs Arturia vs TAL most definitely. :)

Patrick's for sure is a 14-bit which I *think* I had mentioned earlier in this thread and someone had quoted the person on gearslutz who also said the same thing.

Hopefully we can lay this to rest now.

The simple solution is never to set Fine Tuning to Zero on the software.

I'm a big fan of TAL VST instruments. I use his Juno emulation all of the time and recently got the SH-101. All of his products sound great in my opinion. His free products like the Chorus and Reverb are amazing. He has my full support for offering such great products at a very competitive price point. This Jupiter emulation was an instant buy for me. I hope Patrick keeps on developing these VSTs for many years to come!

Best wishes to all of you for the holidays. Please stay safe.
