So I own the Yamaha hs80, but in the night, i mean, when I dont drive them, they really are not so good for bass. I want a fast response, I want small monitors as a second pair for working in the night at very CLOSE level and low to middle volume - I am talking about not more than a 0.5 metre.

What are some of the flatest mini speakers out there? Price can be until 800€ - used - for a pair.

Currently I am looking at Reftone LD3-s / a pair, MixCubes (active) pair, iLoud Micro Monitors, Genelec 8020 (and later a subwoofer) and some other.

then the last option: used PMC DB1S-AII for 800€. Would I get much more clarity than from the yamahas on low level listening?

Its time to do something :) help

I'm happy with this setup. For low volume, 8010 + 7040 is also a very nice choice with a smaller footprint.

The Flatest monitor i know of is the one i have. Neumann Kh 80.
You can look at the Graph hier: https://static-neumann.s3.amazonaws.com ... dB_510.gif
It doesn`t get any flatter than this.
However if you are mixing low volume i don`t believe flat is what will make you happy since the way we hear changes
with volume. So when you mix very low volume you will have a different mix than if you mix "normal" volume.
Watch this video about listening volume while mixing. I find it amazingly useful:

The flatest\most neutral near-field mini monitor
Oh boy... lists of virtually every single near field monitor coming up... :D

But, seriously, flates/most neutral seems to be very subjective...

Bass & low volume are not a good combination.
Use headphones in the night.
Check again on monitors at decent volume when you can.

I have an older Genelec system (with the sub) ... it has bass at low volumes. Couldn't be happier with mine.

You can't beat Bluesky. Their new stuff isn't cheap, but I've ran the mediadesk for 15+ years and they're incredible.
Have you tried Vital?

 You beat me to it - Fletcher-Munson curve, equal loudness, calibrated reference levels and all that...

What BertKoor states.

Definitely the iLouds (note there are two versions).

That said, as stated here, it's probably better to use phones at night and louder volumes at day, if possible. Or perhaps headphones only (if you are out of options). If so, use Somarworks to calibrate your headphones. Then play back on several systems as usual, and you'd be alright. After all, the human ear is rather accepting in terms of bass/treble balance.

Needs to be appended to every thread Bert posts in.
