Made with Serum but applies to Vital too.
Great, but doesn't work on Vital here so far. Using same 2 sine osc with fm and unison exactly as the video I dont get that sound at all on Vital. Sound more like bad almost bubbly streaming noise.

Oh, and I cant find where to turn of key tracking! Strange. :D

Keytracking is on the "Advanced Tab" for Osc 1 - 3. For sample Osc you can switch it on on the main tab.

Key tracking stumped me too. It looks like its marked Note Tracking :dog:
"I can't listen to the Ninth anymore at all."

Post

I actually figured that out in like first 5 minutes of using it so its not a problem 😀

Note track is key track? ahaa... Was wondering what note track was haha. Thanks guys.

About that 2 sines + fm + max unison = cymbal sound from the Serum video though, how the hell do you guys remake it on Vital? The sound I get doing the same on Vital its not even remotely similar. Night and day. The video was posted here by a Vital user as a tip to make good cymbals.

I think the video is a good starting point for your own experiments. Take away of the video is a.) the approach to analyse the sound you want to get to by examples and b.) derive the idea that FM + Unisono could do the trick. I bet Vital is under the hood a bit different when it comes to how unison has been implemented.
Have you tried using different unisono modes and tweek the various parameters on the advanced tab?
And you could also use different types of wavetables for the modulator.
By the way: There is a really ggreat series of articels about how to synthesize stuff on sound-on-sound
Here's the parts about metalic percussion ... might help you ... sorry now video ... in eralier days people realy wrote tutorials.

The rest of the articles are not to bad either ... overall 63.

Thanks! Yeah, I was fooling around with unison in advanced tab a bit. But its hard to decode without a manual. I guess using a visualizer plug like in that Serum video is a good idea to decode what is going on, both from the synth and from samples. I shall try that.

Gosh, thats some long written guides. I will try to collect my focus and get into it. Im one of those ADD guys that cant read without getting distracted every sentence haha. But this is interesting enough. For some reason its much easier for me to read manuals then books. :D In general I enjoy the most to figure out stuff on my own. But after watching this video I realized he got way closer to a "realistic" sound then I ever did.

That Serum technique was so freakin spot on. I can make half ased crash cymbals just by layering noise from the sample osc with multiple vibrating metallic oscillators and envelopes, but.. It sounds just like that. 3 metallic oscs layered with noise on top. A real cymbal does not really create noise, its much more complicated then that. The Serum one was amazing.. How he spread out loads of metallic harmonies with unison, sounding a lot more like a crash then my method. Visually it seemed right too. He did lots of other small adjustments, but that was the main basis of the sound; 2 sines, fm, unison. With a low pass and high pass each assigned to a falling env, that was already amazingly close to the real thing.

I figured it out. Lots of tweaking with all the unison parameters in the advanced tab did the trick!

Hi all,

Today I decided to quit, to give up. I allways tried to make nice sounding acoustic sounds with vital, most of them with the comb filter. Even with Jasinski 's great help, I could not achieve different presets to sound all together in tune. But with all those sounds, I was working on a musical idea, I will not loose. Maybe it is time to do some music beside OSC. So I will try to go on with this idea and make the song with all other instrumments I collected over time, inclusive some sampled sounds.
Maybe some of you can use my presets I made so far. You can find them here:

Have fun with them and good luck!

Question: How do the voting system work?

I understand we post our submissions here with a bandcamp link.

But how and where do we vote, can we vote on more then one, or are there other rules?

Briefly:
You have to vote on every track.
You give every track a score from 1 to 5.
It is up to you how you decide what to score each track - there has been lots of discussion and sharing of different ways of doing this, and in the end it is up to you to vote as you wish. Some people have shared explicitly how they personally rate tracks (e.g. production, musicality, interest / surprises, sound design, authenticity, taste), and sometimes it has been a bit of a hot topic :D
You must score your own track 1.
There is a voting page that you can get to from the OSC site. You will need to register, it is a separate login from KVR itself.

Hope this helps :tu:

btw it's not a bandcamp link, it is a soundcloud link :)

Oh, that's a pity :(
I always liked your 'instruments', but more than that, I admire your skill in composing touching and soulfully songs. I hope we can enjoy your 'musical idea' sometime on your SC- or YT-channel ....

Heresy :?
What is this 'music beside OSC'??
I hope you are well.

:D Seriously, I agree with rockingricky - shame to hear your Vital tuning woes, always love your work. Look forward to hearing it in some form.
Thanks for the presets, I'm going to play with them later :tu:

Ahaaaa! great, thanks!

And when is a good time to do the voting? from the 1rst of january when everyone has delivered?

Soundcloud yeah my bad, was thinking SC but wrote BC for some reason. :P

Edit:
Just read the first post again and its all there:

Once submissions are over, the voting starts - you *MUST* vote to get a ranking or prize
The voting link will be posted on the 1st, and OP will be updated.

So I will look for that OSC page to try make a login account now.

And what if we are out on a party on the 1st? Will the voting continue a few days?
