I have a composition which is more or less in a complete state, for the first time in over a decade. Way way back I remember sending cds to myself and registering pieces/getting offical ISBN... no, that's for books, whatever the musical equivalent is called, with the musicians union somethingorother, can't remember the exactly name of the organisation. Funnily enough that all seems rather dated, and even more so when blockchain-related methods either are available or very soon will be. Of course there is the bigger question as to whether there's any point in even thinking about it, since in a world which is saturated with stuff/shit/content, the chances of anyone having any particular interest in my work are small... but small is larger than zero, so given that fact it might be worth worrying about.
Can the act of simply uploading to a youtube channel constitute proof of ownership? (I'm guessing it probably does given other circumstantial factors.)

A quick search brings up the sort of projects one would expect to have developed on blockchain tech. But I suppose the problem with these systems is that they're centralized and one has no idea what the developers are going to do with the project.
A video like this ticks all the right boxes:
But the channel has a mere 349 subscribers after 3 years.

Depending on how easy it is to exchange specific crypto tokens for fiat, it would seem that using something like Audius (which I've just stumbled upon) would involve a bet on the future value of the token.

This. There's no money involved ¯\_(ツ)_/¯here's any point in even thinking about it, since in a world which is saturated with stuff/shit/content, the chances of anyone having any particular interest in my work are small

It's certainly a new historical situation brought about by the digital persistence of just about everything that was ever made, now available in the present. Strange times. And the 'names' one sees in the commendation sections of websites for synths/soundware seem to exist only in a circuit where they're names because they're names on such websites, and because they've had a photo taken that's semi-professional, and so they look as if they ought to be 'names'. I guess that rather ties in with the Baudrillardian notion of the hyperreal, something which I've always though was exaggerated and wanky, but it does seem to make some sense.DJ Warmonger wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:02 pmThis. Still, I may as well have a look at what monetizing options are out there.

Google keywords: Berne Convention, what is publishing, poor man's copyright ...
Short version: copyright is simply established by creating a work - then publishing it.
No matter what, if your copyright gets breached then you have to sue the offending publisher yourself. It's you that has to find out about it and take action.

In case of a lawsuit (safe creative) provide a lawyer or a notary ( I guess you have to change the account to a paid one).BertKoor wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:33 pm Google keywords: Berne Convention, what is publishing, poor man's copyright ...

They use the upload date of your works as a reference and are legally recognized in the EU, based on the "Berne Convention".
In Germany ( for example ) you have to proof your own innocence in a court. Or in a case of Copyright infringement you have to proof that you are the author. Anybody with just an idea can bring anybody in front of a court.

That's why some Artist's want to secure themselves, just in case.

I haven't looked at them properly yet but I see an option on the account details to enter passport number or similar ID. So you have some ID plus a timestamp. There is then the issue of whether you can rely on that company to continue to exist and to maintain that record... I guess multiple similar services would be reduce that risk. Blockchain does seem designed specifically for this type of purpose, and I guess proof of ID in that case would be based on having the private keys corresponding with the entry in the blockchain, the latter being the timestamp.t3toooo wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 2:51 pmIn case of a lawsuit (safe creative) provide a lawyer or a notary ( I guess you have to change the account to a paid one).BertKoor wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 1:33 pm Google keywords: Berne Convention, what is publishing, poor man's copyright ...
