There are a few synths that use this method (injecting noise in to resonators) but this one is unique in terms of ease of use, it’s very playable and responsive (that’s why people like physical modelling) and if you own a Touché it’s a no brainier.Halonmusic wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:08 pm And this is special because? Every sound in those demos could be made with any synth.

I did hear some noise in there. I thought that was just basic noise. Was it indeed noise injected into resonators? Sounds cool i must admit. Also Touché is a controller right, like Linnstrument? I suppose the synth is MPE compatibleSLiC wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:37 pmThere are a few synths that use this method (injecting noise in to resonators) but this one is unique in terms of ease of use, it’s very playable and responsive (that’s why people like physical modelling) and if you own a Touché it’s a no brainier.Halonmusic wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:08 pm And this is special because? Here is the makers blurb about how everything works....
Expressive E Presents a Fresh Concept for Software Synthesizers Based on Acoustic Resonance: Noisy.
Designed for easy sonic manipulation and expressive playability, Noisy makes sound design seamless with intelligent parameter optimization.
Paris, France, December 18th, 2020 — French electronic instrument developer Expressive E presents not just a new software synthesizer, but an original concept in synthesis, Noisy. This hybrid of physical modeling and subtractive synthesis is built on the principle of acoustic resonance—the natural phenomenon behind the sound of vibrating strings.
Noisy’s intuitive interface and multidimensional sound design system produce lively and organic sounds with extraordinary expressive potential and complex textures and articulations. Yet behind the scenes, parameters are seamlessly optimized in real time so that no matter what you adjust, the sound always remains highly playable.
Noisy is now available in VST and AU plug-in formats for macOS and Windows 10 at an introductory price of $/€89 until December 31st, discounted from the regular price of only $/€149.
A World of Resonance
When the strings of an acoustic instrument are hit, they vibrate and go into resonance, creating timbres that constantly and vividly fluctuate as they dissipate. Noisy recreates this organic response by sending noises into a suite of resonators. The random, continuously changing behavior of the noise enlivens the sounds with unique character.
Each resonator has an acoustic and a subtractive dimension. The “acoustic” side emanates from optimized comb filter technology, while the electronic, subtractive synthesis side applies resonance to traditional waveforms, a new concept called Resonant Oscillators.
Multidimensional - One Preset, Many Sounds
Noisy has been designed to generate highly playable, multidimensional sounds, whose textures and articulations can be easily combined and manipulated. Every preset has four distinct dimensions of sound design, which can be used on their own, or combined seamlessly with each other. In addition, a preset layering system lets you mix the dimensions of two different presets, allowing endless possibilities for sonic creation.
Expressive FX - Enhance and Articulate
A complete tool set of expressive effects allows you to go much deeper into enhancing your sounds. The FX section is ideal for real-time manipulation and easily creating fluid articulations, breaks, drops, etc... Convenient FX macros make it easy to explore the boundaries of expressiveness.
Intuitive Interface -> Exciting Results
Noisy’s color coded graphic interface makes it easy to understand each section of the synth at a glimpse. Everything is laid out for a simple yet powerful preset-making experience—you can quickly adjust all the parameters and modulation systems in just a few clicks. What’s more, behind the scenes, everything is optimized so that there are never dead zones in any sound. Sensitivity curves and ranges are continuously scaled in the background so you can focus completely on creativity.
Perfect for Touché and Touché SE
Noisy's four sound design dimensions are an ideal playground for Expressive E’s Touché and Touché SE. Fully compatible with Touché and its software companion, Lié, Noisy will push Touché to another level, while Touché will place a whole new universe of sounds and playing articulations at your fingertips.

I see its geared towards physical modelling then? Not many of those is it? Cromaphone is the only one that comes to mind, and i believe Zebra2 can do that aswell. Cool.

This got quiet quickly
.
I also find preset browsing very non optimal.... There are no keyboard shortcuts to go previous or next preset (at least any that I found)
and the arrows that one clicks on to forward or go back are so tiny...
Interesting that the Version number is 0.0
.. Maybe they really do plan on building it really well over time
Also for sure the New Preset and Preset Location options in the Hamburger can or should be placed in the Save/Save As drop down on the main page. rsp

Hi there. Yes, the preset switching a little slow, but it is quite a CPU guzzler isn't it. Other "big" VSTs I have are similar. Yes, the mapping allows for us to do our own. It is a seriously useful synth. I was playing with it last night. It really does interesting things to the Noisy sounds. It is as it purports to be very expressive.SLiC wrote: Fri Dec 18, 2020 3:22 pmYeh, as a Touché user I would say this is a very worthwhile purchase at 40% off.
It looks like it will be very easy to map just about anything from standard wheels to MPE to it, but you cant beat pre-mapped by the sound designers!
Are you finding pre-set switching quite slow?
Did the beta multicore work in Cubase?
Have you found the 'initialise/blank pre-set?! (scrub that one, its in the main menu!)
I guess I could read the manual, last resort!![]()
I am not sure what you mean about the beta core and main menu. I found everything I have used on it up to now to be working fine in Cubase. May be I will find little bugs as I go deeper into it. It really is like having a brand new synth. It is as exciting as when I bought Hydrasynth. It is what I was wanting for the Touche. It did not seem complete without its own synth.
It is an excellent start for the developers. It has huge potential too. I hope they will continue to develop and refine it.

For those who have this and the Touché: Does owning the Touche change the parameters mapped on the midi learn section? If so I would love to see a screen shot to see what parameters they have mapped to what functionality of the Touche.
Thanks

It maps 1-4 to midi CC16-19 - that's pretty much it!zvenx wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:55 pm For those who have this and the Touché: Does owning the Touche change the parameters mapped on the midi learn section? So 1 (CC16) is Expression control 1, 2 (CC17) Expression control 2 and then Fx control 1 and 2
Or to put it another way- up layer 1 expression, down layer 2 expression, left fx 1 expression and right fx 2 expression (or visa versa, cant remember!)
FYI the midi learn page has 8 slots- the first 4 mapped as above (so could be controlled with anything you map CC16-19 to) and then 4 more which are not pre-set and can be set to CCXX or aftertouch etc (I have vibrato set to AT for example). This IS remembered as a global setting without saving.

That is exactly how I see it- a great start/work in progress...houseoftheangels wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:36 pm It is an excellent start for the developers. It has huge potential too. I hope they will continue to develop and refine it.
Maybe we start start making a list of features we need to send them (or perhaps they are reading these posts
Mute option on resonator mixer
Mute option on layers
Midi mapping for pre-set switching
Faster pre-set switching
New (blank) pre-set option from main screen
Drum sounds bank
optimisation (get multicore working!)
etc...
longer term be nice to see more excitation sources, more modulation sources, different reverb types and an arp/sequencer....but for now I have more than enough to be creative with and am not overwhelmed (as I often am when I start with Falcon!)

The button the Touché do pre-set up and down in Lie (and Noisy works in Lie so you can do it that way) but it is an odd omission that they don't build that directly in Noisy (a CC mapping) given there are 2 buttons on the controller!zvenx wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:23 pm This got quiet quickly.

The control page is also superior in Lie IMHO as you have more control of the expression on 1 page...I guess they had to get a balance with non Touché owners setting the thing up as well, personally I think they should have a non-touché page and a touché page (like the one in Lie)

My first feature request would be MPE support. I don't have the Touche and I do have a Linnstrument.SLiC wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 2:56 pmThat is exactly how I see it- a great start/work in progress...houseoftheangels wrote: Sat Dec 19, 2020 1:36 pm It is an excellent start for the developers. I have an Osmose on order, I am wondering if they will bundle this or an LE version and pre-map everything for that as well...
