As a Reason Rack Plugin user and NOT Reason user - have you purchased any REs or refills?

I was wondering how successful were Reason Studios in generating new business from non-Reason users through Reason Rack Plugin ("RRP")?
I imagine part of the plan was to extract some money from people that were leaving Reason anyway, so they would be enticed to upgrade to v11 to keep using their toys in other DAW. But there must've also been a hope to get some new Rack Extension ("RE") or refill (sample & preset pack) sales from people that never used Reason, but now bought it for the 1st time for the native devices & FX, upgraded an ancient version that was collecting dust on their shelf or received a "free" copy of Intro/Lite with some gear or from Pluginboutique, etc.
So, have you - as a non-Reason user - bought any REs or refills to use in RRP hosted in another DAW?

I have Reason 11 Lite, but, after the initial excitement, and after some considerations to buy a RE synth, I never really got into it. Not worth it IMO, especially with the amount of stuff available as VST, which runs in every DAW, not just in the Reason Rack (plugin). IMO, there's nothing exclusively available in RE, which is better or up to par with the best VST offerings.

No and yes, my story in very broad strokes, so lots of details omitted...
Cakewalk user since forever (<1990), so was on Sonar when Cakewalk closed down a few years ago. Went with the Cubase cross deal that was offered at the time. I had tried some very early Reason version at a friends house, I also installed some oem version (essentials?) but timing was wrong so I never really got into it. But I did keep an eye on Propellerheads thanks to this. In summer 2019 (august?) when they announced that 11 would be a vst3 plugin and upgrade from 10 would be included intro-version was a no brainer for me. My thinking was to use it as a plugin, but as I got into it I appreciated the daw part more and more and by end of may this year I had upgraded to suite. I still use Cubase more, I would say 2/3 of time spent is with Cubase but very often with the Reason plugin used. So it's money well spent.
And yes - I have purchased other stuff besides upgrading to full reason and suite, the Delta midi computer for example. Might get more in the future, the Synapse bundle looks good...
I guess I'm one of the "yes, but only..." but I haven't really stayed just a rack plugin user. But I probably wouldn't have purchased Reason if it wasn't for the plugin.

Well, since RRP is a VST3, AU and AAX you could say all REs run in all DAWschk071 wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:35 amNot worth it IMO, especially with the amount of stuff available as VST, which runs in every DAW, not just in the Reason Rack (plugin).
And I would disagree about uniqueness, because many of the players, sequencers and generative stuff in Reason rack are pretty unique, not least because of how you can integrate & interconnect them with cables on the back. And even with synths it's pretty unusual - I think impossible, even? - for VSTs to allow to send audio through them, like you can with Thor, Complex-1, Parsec, Resonans and several others.
But I do see your point. Thanks!

I think you're the best case scenario Reason Studios were hoping forbeltrom wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 11:48 amI guess I'm one of the "yes, but only..." but I haven't really stayed just a rack plugin user. But I probably wouldn't have purchased Reason if it wasn't for the plugin.

This is me too.beltrom wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 11:48 am I haven't really stayed just a rack plugin user. But I probably wouldn't have purchased Reason if it wasn't for the plugin.
FWIW I mostly bought Reason Intro to get access to the Noise Engineering Rack Extensions. Europa is also a good synth and I like how easy it is to grab audio from hardware into the various samplers. (But not in the plugin
I also like using the Matrix step sequencer to automate certain VST plugins like the Soundemote oscilloscope music stuff. (Again, this doesn't work in the plugin
Other things I like in Reason are the Redrum step sequencer and the Groove Template system. These do not work together.

Some VSTi's can do that though, and VST effects would be pretty useless if they couldn't do that, right?antic604 wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:44 pmWell, since RRP is a VST3, AU and AAX you could say all REs run in all DAWschk071 wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 10:35 amNot worth it IMO, especially with the amount of stuff available as VST, which runs in every DAW, not just in the Reason Rack (plugin).

Slow down, man. I'm playing the acronym drinking game, and this was too much, too fast.antic604 wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:44 pm Well, since RRP is a VST3, AU and AAX you could say all REs run in all DAWs![]()

I purchased Reason once the VST update landed. I then purchased the ABL3 Computer Bassline and Acid Diode Ladder Filter rack extensions because, well, ACID.
Bloody great they are too!

sry not wanted to start a brand new topic just because of this one answer, Voltage can modulate VSTs and it's very sickimrae wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:51 pm...beltrom wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 11:48 am I haven't really stayed just a rack plugin user. ...

PSP Ultimate Modular Collection is on sale 33 plugins for 49$ dollars which is a joke but I like it https://store.cherryaudio.com/bundles/p ... collection it uses remote/cv modulation hybrid so those controls which haven't got CV inputs still can be modulated remotely the top right plugin on the image, sry for offing again
ps. the visibility of the cables can be turned in/out with shortkey (+their transparency and thickness can be set), so it's not a xmas tree in the real-life

I've never really felt the draw of Reason, but would have considered upgrading from the rack plugin if they had offered an enticing deal in attempt to grow their user base. They most certainly did not entice me.

They have a Christmas sale ATM, if those prices are enticing enough for you.

There’s a healthy resale market here in Buy & Sell as well which is how I got my copy.anxiousmofo wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 8:44 pm I've never really felt the draw of Reason, but would have considered upgrading from the rack plugin if they had offered an enticing deal in attempt to grow their user base. What you mean? Is there a Rack Plugin version without the actual DAW??anxiousmofo wrote: Wed Dec 23, 2020 8:44 pm I've never really felt the draw of Reason, but would have considered upgrading from the rack plugin if they had offered an enticing deal in attempt to grow their user base.
