Hi,

my needs for HQ samples are generally limited to basses, drums, orchestral and some ethnic stuff. I have absolutely no need for anything synth related.

There are many bundles but there are far too many bloated stuff I would not need. Simple solutions like ST4, Halion Sonic, Structure 2, etc. all come with way too much content.

I don't want to buy Kontakt because the price also contains a large library I may not use...
Then there are some standalone stuff like Arturia and NI but these may be a bit overkill.

Then I looked at UVI and wonder if this is the best way?

What about actual sampler and getting "sounds" for it.
Is there a simple, easy way to build up from that?

Suggestions welcome. Thanks

I suggest Sforzando and explore the free library of acoustic instruments made for it:

Sforzando: https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando.html
The libraries (both free and commercial): https://www.plogue.com/products/sforzando-banks.html

Go download all the free Unreal Instruments for Sforzando first, they are the best, all acoustic instruments: https://unreal-instruments.wixsite.com/ ... nstruments

How big do you ultimately want your collection of samples to get? "Orchestral" by itself could end up several terabytes and thousands of dollars.

Sforzando is an option, I've obviously made a lot of the stuff for it, and you can also pick up some free SFZ stuff that will run in it. For ethnic sounds you could start with this, and even delete the parts you don't want, if diskspace is a major issue: https://vis.versilstudios.com/vcsl.html

Also Orchestral Tools' SINE stuff allows buying individual instruments out of the larger collections, in case you decide you just want one or two things from something. That ranges from small inexpensive instruments to pretty big and serious ones, like the Metropolis Ark choirs.

Drumdrops drum kits are also worth mentioning, since they do retro sounds extremely well, and have various sizes available, so if you just need a few one-shots of Motown drums, you can just get those. Or if you want the entire kit with individual mic samples and velocity layers and round robins, you can get that. And they include SFZ mappings.

Kontakt might actually be worth picking up on sale, as there's a whole lot of free stuff that requires it, and small libraries for specific ethnic instruments. I never downloaded the factory library, actually, not having the space for it.
