c'mon everybody, sing along -

'...and you can thank your lucky stars that we're not as bright as we'd like to think we are.'

This was the song with the rhyme 'listen hon, I know you're glum', which for gawdawfulness is up there with 'Mephistopholes is not your name/I know what you're up to just the same' - now, where was this stellar example of a bad rhyme from?

I couldn't say. But -- good golly -- at least the first half is true.

As it happens, my name is Mephistoff Ellis. (No, Old Nick and I aren't related.)

Well here's a clue. It comes from the same stable as 'I'll be the flag to your nation/I'll be the crop to your rotation'

I just am amazed that no one has nominated any of the tracks off DJ Rap's Learning Curve, especially "Good To Be Alive". Holly shit man, the video was like if BT and Christina Aguilera had a baby and during childhood it was dropped on the head a half dozen times. Seriously, the track made the production on Cher's Believe look tasteful in comparison. And as for the singing, William Hung on six shots of tequila and cough syrup could have done a better job. Bad girl? NO! Bad singer, there’s a difference.

Were those lyrics something like:
'Hello, this is Jody, I'm sorry but I'm not home, but if you leave me, your name and number, I promise that I will phone'?

I want to weep

William Hung, you say?

Earlier, I pointed to MeatLoaf as hope for "the rest of us" to be able to have a career in the music business. If anything, William Hung should not only be hope, but proof that the rest of us could make it in the music business. That man is truly an inspiration to underdogs around the world.

Actually I think William Hung is a great example of what could be so bloody sick about the music industry.

That someone could make such an arbitrary decision to make a total, talentless dickhead into some sort of comedic icon just makes everything for us look 10 times as grim.

You know then that writing good music and working hard on production, teaching yourself the ropes means absolutely nothing (probably less than nothing). That you really need to be a completely untalented someone that a production company happens across and deliberately plants into American Idol for the purpose of cheap laugh and then flogs again and again until the person is well known enough to become a celebrity.

After knowing that you're better off seeking your destiny through a lottery ticket. You probably have better odds at success.

Personally I prefer to see William Hung as a complete aberration and believe that there is a future is knowing what you're doing and working hard at it. Otherwise we're just kidding ourselves.

OK - I have a bee in my bonnet about William Hung and the very obvious (and tedious) ripoff from Australian Idol - Flynn, the talentless Asian who sang Michael Jackson's "Beat It".

It's really sad to think that the Australians not only decided to follow the concept of William Hung but to actually find another William Hung exactly.

ARGHHH!!!!!

Make sure to scroll down to "Terrifying Christian Recordings" and download some of those...
Oh my freaking goodness!
I just listened to http://www.aprilwinchell.com/multimedia ... esus%2Emp3 and it left me... erm, I don't even know how!
I mean, yes, I kinda like kids and all... but would it help if I'd say I listened to THIS in case they finally caught me after... <uh no, I won't say what I'd like to do to that christian cowboy>.

Apart from all that, I think the Beatles DO deserve being No.1 with Obladibladaaaaaaargh - I mean, considering they were a kickass team of songwriters, this is completely inacceptable!

While were on the subject,

No 9 No 9 no 9

did this even qualify as a song

Also why do people give P McC a hard time for writing catchy riffs???,I have to admit I used to go along with the "johns stuff was better" idea , but since I'm now a grown up and can really speak for myself I think entertainers giving their view point on issues like war and poverty is one thing but pure entertainment is definatly something else, and Paul has and does still purely entertain people as far as I'm concerned.

Just saw Pauls live at red square thingy recently and
boy was I amazed at all of the wings stuff that is (ok sometimes sickly catchy) really good
-Let em in
-Junk
-Live and let die , c,mon like WOW!!
-maybe I'm amazed

if any of us here could write catchy stuff like that we probably wouldn't have the time to post on here what with the live gigs , record releases etc.

hmmm just saying that's all.

I do believe the title of this is "Brand New Key".

I can remember hearing a parody of this on a BBC shortwave radio station. Instead of roller skates, I believe it mentioned something about a battleship? I don't remember much about that version, but I remember liking it a bit better than the original. Does anyone in the UK remember the parody? I think I'm possibly the only one in the USA that remembers it. ;)

take care,

I remember the Wurzels with their parody "The Combine Harvester"....

I don't know if he released it in Europe, but American humour writer Dave Barry put together a book of bad songs based on a poll he asked his readership to fill out. The #1 song was MacArthur Park by Richard Harris, followed by Timothy by The Buoys (a death tragedy song about cannabalism written by Rupert Holmes, who would later write Escape (The Pina Colada Song ) .

For bad lyrics, you can't beat Neil Diamond: "I am, I said/to no one there/and no one heard at all/not even the chair!"

But for all time cringe-worthy has to be Muskrat Love.....
