Do you really need MPE for every synth? Remember MPE is still pretty new.
Yes,
I don't play keyboards anymore...
I stopped using synths in the ninties for the lack of expression. Synths which I can't play expressively are simply boring...
then we should let everyone who makes music without MPE know how messed up they are, and how bad their music is. btw, 1890s or 1990s?....
Did I say that??? I hope not. I know a lot of brilliant pianists and even organists and cembalo players (really hard to get expression in there but obviously possible...).
Reading it again, its obvious my personal preference. I learned violin as first instrument, that might explain it...

I did too, and for my own tastes, I personally don't care about MPE :hihi:

(However, I've come around on this and I can understand why people would want it, even if I don't particularly.)

If playability with MPE is the only thing that matters, don't you only need one synth with MPE then? To me it sounds more like an obsession. Get one synth with good sound design capabilities and you should be set.

Might be a good time to fix the mono legato so that it tracks the most notes played and returns to the latest notes held when notes are released. Most synths work that way. That is, assuming Warlock works like the other tone2 synths.

Post

If you use legato and press 3 or more keys and then release a key the Tone2 synths glide to the first note played. This makes it more easy to play melodies, since the first note is frequently is the key-tonality

Thanks for the explanations Markus. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a synth coming out since Spire was released in 2014.

People don’t always think of Electra2 as often as they should when looking for a synth that can do supersaws and stuff (in the Trance community). The Hypersaw/Supersaw engine is what sold me on it; it can do both the JP and Virus very well with low CPU IMHO.

I’m always looking for synths with good unison engines because usually that’s the big thing that eats up CPU. And the whole 1-page architecture looks great for dialing up sounds super quick on Warlock.

I have plenty of “super synths” (Icarus, Rapid, SynthMaster, Electra, Omnipshere, Alchemy, etc) that cover a lot of bases but it’s nice to have some that are a bit more stripped down in architecture for dialing up bread-and-butter synth sounds.

I agree that Electra2 is excellent for such sounds.

My niggle always has been the workflow. I think the layer workflow of Electra2 makes dialing in rather simple sounds very cumbersome. Icarus is much more straight forward in that regard, but, i happen to like Electra's sound more...

I agree that Warlock could be a winner. The simple workflow coupled with the flexibility in the oscillators will make it easy to create simple to complex sounds. I'll demo it when it is released, and will see how it sounds to me, and maybe buy it then if it sounds nice to me. :) (stating the obvious really)

Couldn't agree more; the layer system can be tricky for me to wrap my head; I'd rather just layer the sounds directly in my sequencer. That and sometimes I find myself using the wrong knob (my own fault) due to the interface, which feels a bit dated relative to Icarus which is insanely powerful. Electra's interface can be a bit like a maze/snake following the path sometimes, but that's the tradeoff of having a very powerful synth like that (reminds me a lot of the Virus actually)

Internal layers mixing is very limited and never achieve DAW mixing results,in my opinion this is more developers ambitions to build powerful synths, than really useful architecture for producers and writers, especially if consider cpu consumption of four internal layers vs 4 'frozen' in your DAW.
In another topics i have 'friends' which still put thumbs down on everything i write, just because i point how useless and deceiving are pompous demos of products, when you have no idea what's real sound and how it will sounds in your mix, when other people can achieve same or better mix with cheaper synths for less money.
Especially when it comes to 'quality' the dispute become a zoo of subjective opinions.
Cheers :)

Whats the browser and folder/ file structure like? Is this another one layer deep folder structure, or will this Tone2 synth have the ability to customize the folder structure and go beyond what tone 2 synths normally offer ?

There will be no folder/file structure.
All sounds, graphics, etc are contained in a single .dll/.vst3 file (around 20 MB). The whole synth will be 'one-file-only'. You can place it wherever you want on your hardisc. It even runs from a USB stick.
Sounds can be saved as single patches (.fxp) and banks with 128 patches.
