Elysia Alpha Compressor. Please give your opinions

PA is currently upgrading the GUIs and make them scalable. I expect Eysia stuff be treated that way not too far in the future. Therefore I stick to Eysia.

PA has around 500 plugins ... could take some time This thing needs a complete redesign, or at least some thicker markers on the knobs.

Small update from my testing session:

I tested the master-version of Alpha on another track and it immediately sounded better. Nice saturation with a harmonic 3D-ish sound This is definitly a sound goodizer Then i've tested almost all of my compressors, to see if i can get similar results with something that i already have. I was shortly before giving up, but then i loaded up PSP fetpressor, although i know that FET/1176 compression is usually not used on the master. The result were so good that i couldnt believe it. I also googled "fet compression master" to see if my ears tricked me today, and i found a posts where some users expirienced the same:

I'm not a big fan of impulse responses, but is there a particular one you would recommend?

I recommend to test some of them with Headphones on - but I have experienced the ones I have tried/bought as completely different. Depends on your Style ...

Unfortunately they took Erin out of Sales today. The Mastering Comp is great, the EQ anyway.

Maybe Gold. Flagship. Heard good Things about Ivory. Love Ebony. But it's more about the EQs for me. Scarlet! Tested Pink for 5 Minutes only .. but maybe Amber. Sand. Coffee.

Tan ist a free Comp. And Basstard a simply brute free EQ. Don't miss the Coral Baxter!

To bei mentioned: My FX Chains are much shorter since AA. Some Problems are gone. Listen 3D - and wait until Sale/Promo 50-89€ (See Twitter!).

The only Problems with them are Selection, CPU and Latency - but that's all irrelevant against the BOOM!

I have Daughteritis, I'm 100% on Headphones and feel Dimensions between these Companys ... Have all bx Channels and Mastering Stuff in my Toolbox - unused at the Moment...

Case closed: Alpha is superb sounding mastering compressor I think, Alphas main strengths are the flexibility and the dimension that it adds to master (3d-ish as i said before). Unfortunatly the UI is a complete desaster. If you have problems to focus the markers on the knobs it quickly gets annoying Everything that draws to much attention away from the creative process doesnt work for me. Maybe for a short time, but sooner or later i will be so annoyed, that i wont use the plugin anymore ... wouldnt be the first time

In terms of adding dimension to the master, i had surprisingly good results with PSP FETpressor and the McDSP 6050 (49 € at the moment). A friend suggested this to me, but i was a bit sceptical because i've never used a channel strip before. That thing sounds great. It has 10 different compressors available and some of them add a nice dimension to the master. I can highly recommend to check it out. The compressors are surely not as flexible as Alpha but the 6050 is fun to use and has a very focused workflow

Edit: Klanghelm MJUC in Mode 1 is also great on the master

The PA Elysia Alpha compressor GUI is true to the hardware unit, so besides allowing to resize the window, I'm afraid nothing will change.

Because of the sale I'm having a look at this plugin and am wondering whether its character is really just about the mid/side processing, which can of course be done with other compressors. Is there something else about the compression style or the warming that makes it stand out from the crowd? The online a/b examples certainly sound good.

If I donˋt here a certain character of say a compressor I conclude that I donˋt need it.

The Elysia Alpha is to my ears quite clean and transparent, so I use it on mixes I want to sound transparent.

I did a House track and just got the Elysia Alhpa Compressor and stuck it on.
Very, very nice. I'd recommend it based on that experience. It has a nice character to it.

Yes it comes with both mix and master versions.

The mpressor sounds much more aggressive. It also offers higher ratios and also negative ratios which the alpha compressor lacks.

mpressor is good for drums, you can make it pump in a groovy way.
it has different features.
watch the many timing buttons. great impact!
alpha is less suitable for effects, but creates glue and punch on the stereo bus.

Alpha is a quality compressor. However, I find it softens the highs a little bit. It can be nice but I usually prefer it softer acoustic material, such as orchestral. I wouldn't use it for shaping or adding punch. The clipper can be useful used sparingly.
