I wrote down all the "stuff" I wanted to purchase at eSoundz the other night and the total cost down the bottom of the page just stared back at me defiantly.

ST2 XL
Symphony Strings tank
Studio Drums Capsule
Guitars Capsules - 3 pack

Was there something else I wanted?
Yeah that's right....MONEY!

It's funny because for what I'm getting with those items the total is laughably cheap. In fact it could well be the deal of the century from a content point of view and an awesome Christmas present for myself.

I may have to leave the Guitar 3 pack and try to come back to it next year some time. The others are a higher priority and I'm almost bursting at the seams to get Studio Drums.

Anyway - just thought I'd share that with you all. I'm sure you've all been there. You know the purchase is basically mandatory for your psychological well-being but have to keep putting it off due to very boring concerns.

Buy a real instrument, it will do your well being a lot of good, plus negate the need to buy all that kind of stuff you listed as you would be too involved with what you have.

Get a real instrument and master it, Plus enjoy what you do have.

so much can be done without needing to spend tons electronically too.

Check out the SFZ sound font players by RGC for example.

Keep within your means geezer

Just noticed this is a company forum too - just clicked the header from the main page

Thought it needed sorting

I am sure SS is a wonderful tool - the post above is for Celeb the 'must spend more for my well being' comment

Weird comment. Don't even know what you mean by "real instrument". If you mean go out and buy a real guitar I'd say I'd probably be wasting my time and money more doing that then writing tunes with some of this glorious content. You see you don't have to waste a hell of a lot of time learning how to use Sonic Reality content.

That is true - which is why I don't own z3ta, impOscar, Rhino, FM7, Cameleon or any of the other supposed must-haves that would probably be a useless purchase for me.

Wow - you can't have spent much time investigating avenues like this. Last time I checked I wouldn't be able to load Studio Drums into sfz.

I happen to have SFZ and DS404 and VSampler and STS5000, but rummaging around gigabytes of sub-standard sf2 or free akais hoping to hit the jackpot is a little less efficient than reaching into the one bag and drawing out a golden nugget everytime.

It's the content, geezer, the content.

And if I weren't living within my means I'd probably be selling up to pay a thousand or more on one string library.

*sigh*

100%

I spent years collecting and sorting and filtering soundfonts. I went through gigabytes to come up with a final collection of about 500 megs. and in the end, they were still kinda average at best. Inconsistent production values, weird multisampling, unknown sources, etc.

I could go on, but I'm tired and about to go to bed.

Let's just say - once I tasted Sonic Synth 1, I never went back to soundfonts!

The wide selection. The consistent quality. The SampleTank engine. Simply awesome.

Forever,

Amen! Ditto for Sonic Station and the Capsules!

I originally went through a phase where I attempted to build a nice library of great-sounding soundfonts. Soundfonts were going to be my avenue of creativity, baby.

Man did I fail. There just aren't enough good soundfonts out there IMO to merit endless hours of searching. Commercial soundfonts don't seem to be the ticket, either. I spent about $50 on some banks of soundfonts that are mediocre at best. And not even a "bread-n-butter" library. I would've probably had to spend another $100 in soundfonts just to get a wide palette of (mediocre) sounds. Ugh, I seriously regret purchasing them, but I had this fool's hope that soundfonts were going to be great. Maybe if you're some kind of effects wiz you can turn a mediocre soundfont into something decent, but I want something that sounds good "out of the box".

By comparison, I paid a mere $80 for the OmniSynth library, and it was a very smart purchase. Not only do I have a bread-n-butter library of sounds, but the majority of the multisamples sound great!

In terms of creativity and ease-of-use, I think that IK and Sonic Reality products far outstrip any soundfonts, free or otherwise. What's the point of getting free sounds if they suck?

Amen to all the above. When I first purchased SS1 it blew me away compared to anything I had spent so many hours searching for online and trying to get to work. Just got ST2 XL and after the heart attack I got upon hearing it I've not been the same since.

And we haven't even mentioned Squids and the crew and the wonderful support & warm fuzzies we get from them. Some things you just can't put a price on.

I'm scared to death to order my SS2 update. I may not recover from that one.

Well, the sounds on these discs are going to be great for your music when you have them. Maybe they'll even be better than some other things around the studio that you're not using much. Whenever I wanted something bad enough I figured out a way to get it. Maybe I had to part with another piece of gear to do it. Sometimes you have to be creative. Also, anyone who is trying to get all of those things at once could talk to one of the sales guys at esoundz and plead with them for a "package deal" that is even better than what you see on the site. If there's room to do it they can be pretty understanding.

Then there's the philosophy of getting these tools to make music and hopefully do some gigs with them where they easily pay for themselves. You're a talented musician. So, that's one way to go too perhaps.

Of course, there's always picking and choosing and timing things so it fits into your budget too. Either way, I have a special gift for you that you'll like and it will give you a little bit more than you expected anyway. This is our holiday gift that we'll be giving away with all sound orders on www.esoundz.com starting tomorrow (it will be officially announced on Monday though).

Yeah believe it or not I have $600 in coins saved up. Yeah I know - I'm a freak.

I don't really know why I was saving it but for some bizarre reason I was trying to get up to $1000 in coins. (shoot me now).

I think I'll try and gather a bit more together and then splurge at eSoundz - the best Christmas store in the world.

See - you're right Squids.
