I think it's justified to have both J-8 and Tal Mod, the things sound different to me. Tal-Mod is much cleaner while J-8 has that vintage sound [possibility].

Also the workflow is very different, which I like. It leads to different results. I'm at a point where I'm weighing the layout/workflow of the synth almost half of the importance in the decision of using/buying the synth. The other half is of course sound, and to an extent the support/maintenance of the developer and choice of protection used.

TAL scores almost all of these categories full points, and compared eg. to my other favorites he is only one guy doing it, so double props.
I'm sure some love for TAL-Mod will follow

That's the Poly 1 mode.

I probably got the term wrong but where the voices cycle through even if the same note is pressed. How it is in Synapse Obsession or U-he Repro 5.

Maybe I'm missing something but it doesn't seem to work like that in either poly mode in J8.

That's the Poly 1 mode.

Not quite. There's no round robin poly mode. It looks like the Poly Mode just dictate what to do when new voices are added. If you open the SC panel and repeatedly press a single note in either poly mode, you'll see that the voice assignment isn't cycling through the voices round robin style.

Hey all. Happy to have found this thread. Am doing some presets for this synth, it's lovely. Using a Behringer BCR2000 for programming works beautifully, no stepping at all. I concur with the comments about cpu usage needing to come down - I made a patch with max unison on both parts and it brought my 2018 mac mini (i5, admittedly) to its knees playing a single note. Ouch! It sounded great, though. A nice clear-sounding alternative to the sweet but rather wooly chorus.

I can confirm to be experiencing the bug where bouncing audio loses notes played at the first beat. Just thought I'd mention this.

A feature request (maybe this has been discussed?): A detune dial for osc 1 like the one osc 2 has! Certain modulations like square wave lfo pitch mod (musical interval jumps), crossmod and pitch envelope often offset the actual pitch from the note played on the keyboard. In order to realign the pitch with the keyboard, if the combination of up to 1 semitone part tuning and 1 semitone master tuning is insufficient, it seems you either need to omit osc 1 or use the daw's functionality to transpose the midi. Quite long-winded, and if your patch uses both parts you may find yourself at a loss as to how you can overcome part B tracking 4 semitones above part A. The patch could be perfect, you just need to bring part B in line with part A. Then, while searching for a workaround you might end up ruining the carefully set up interactions between key follow and other sweet-spot inducing elements.

One solution would be to extend the range of the per-part tuning knob, but unlocking osc 1 from its octave-only tuning would be my preference if I had to choose. Making both ways available would be best imo, liberating the user from having to work around the interface.

Does this make sense?

Second feature request: A display of midi mappings, editable, would be nice. Sometimes it's useful to be able to plot a CC number in by hand. My Novation Bass Station 2, for instance, uses 14-bit midi for the cutoff dial and a few other knobs. Synths with midi learn functionality tend to pick up on the leading CC number which causes unusable behaviour. Those that allow me to type in CC #16 instead of 48 or whatever it is, work great when corrected. Cherry Audio DCO-106 and CA2600 have the sort of editability I am talking about. I was going to use the BS 2 to control J-8, but had to give up.

One almost negligible difference from the hardware: LFO sawtooth is a downward saw in Jupiter-8 and a upward saw on J-8, but TAL does bipolar modulations (positive and negative), so it's not really a problem

Have one more suggestion:

- The VCO calibration knob is a nice mixing/coloration tool. But it would be even more handy, if the current 0 position actually was the middle position, and then the 0 position was more dull. I guess that would be nice for bass sounds.

Maybe a modifier key/click on either Poly1 or 2 could light 'em both up for a third round robin mode? Beats adding a third button.

VST3 id fixed on windows to be compatible with macOS.

The plugin maybe not load anymore in existing sessions after the update. You can still download 1.1.9 for older projects. You can rename the TAL-J-8.vst3 folder of the older 1.1.9 plug-in in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3 and run both plugins parallel as long you need it in older sessions.

I discovered today whilst using my pc to mix some projects I had started on mac that there was an issue in Cubendo vst3 with crossplatform.

Anyway I brought it to Patrick's attention and there is a fix up.
Clearly it only affects Windows users who have use the vst3 version.

Not unique, but Rolands were more likely to have it.
