It might cost just 30 on iOS (like 10 dollar vs. 120 for Lunar Lander).martinjuenke wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 7:57 pm Oh, I see: 500 bucks.

I could use the iOS version on my Mac
But no one knows if it really comes to live and so I am happy the last version still works (but still sometimes crash Logic) with the latest Logic on my M1 MacBook.
Finally I can go deeper with sound design since it seems to perform better as I hoped on these new chips under Rosetta.

Tried them all and more and it might anyway be a subtle thing and is mostly maybe about what inspires me and what happens when I turn some knobs. Such a sound is ready in a minute and I could not get that out of other synths.martinjuenke wrote: Fri Jan 01, 2021 7:58 pm Have you tried NI Blocks or VCV or Softube Modular or Cherry Modular or Bitwig or Reaper?
For me there is something more organic going on in P900 and it might be due to all the little randomisations happens here (also in the envelopes) and its almost even with simple sound you get a kind of round robin effect which is the most organic for me.
Sure you can program that all in and use randomisations and modulations but like I said, I just could not create sounds I can in P900 with any other synth. The saturation is still the best for me, sometimes so subtle but compared to most other synths more musical and organic as well. It gives me natural sounding flute like tones and works great even at very high frequencies with saturation and high resonances where most other synths let me down. It can create that noisy breath sound which goes to inaudible highs without getting on my nerves like with 99% of all my other synths. It just sings from low to the very high.
At the end it could be just my flavour but it is like it is. I tried and I def. cannot replace this with any other synth, even if all people would say it sounds like any digital synth. Now that I can push it a bit further I will see. I am into these organ/hybrid sounds now and here it shines for me also.
All the subtle things going on here are with very few modules here and I just triggered some random chords. It still create my favourite synth guitar sounds, best synth brass sounds, interesting pads, great low end and more.
Does it all for me? No, but in terms of analog sounds and a few other areas it does everything i need.
O.k. fanpost end.
No secret I love this but you see I am lonely here, so it does not matter and represent just my personal meaning.
I would describe it for me like Repro 5 in even better sound quality and is much more versatile in terms of sound design for me. Simple for me, best filters, best saturation, best plate reverb and delay included in a synth. Envelopes are almost perfect for what it does and it also comes with one of the best sequencers included and some more.
Reaktor and other modulars can do much more in theory but are terrible to use, sound not as good for me and taxing CPU even more if I try to go into same territory.
Drambo (iOS only but also works on my Mac now) would be even my second choice since its the most innovative for me.
You have to take P900 out of my cold dead hands.
Plasmonic is the only other third party synth which interest me right now but that in a complete other thing.
And indeed the soundcloud demo sounds even crap since it sounds so much more rich and full of harmonics before soundcloud make their crap with it (and I uploaded a 32bit44.1Khz wav which sounds much much better and you hear more going on there, strange).

What?
Is this a feature of Big Sur?
You can use iOS apps on a Mac?
Has it to be a new Mac?
Do you need an iPad as well for controlling the app?
How is it integrated into Logic?

Indeed iOS AUv3 just opens in Logic. But its early days and its not ready yet. F.e. AUv3 crash if you scroll anything since it seems to blow the GUI. Most bugs are GUI related and get solved hopefully.
The standalone Drambo works fine and it even can host other AUv3 (but again this does not work yet like it should). You even can load Drambo AUv3 as module inside Drambo.
Its also made for touch screens so maybe more joy to use on a large iPad (but works also good on my iPhone) but otherwise you use it just per mouse/trackpad like you would any other plug-in.
I like Drambo because it sounds great to me and its super fast to work with and it has everything I need in a modular from the usual OSCs, wavetable, to physical modelling, samplers, easy switch to up to 8 voices, even a radio unit now and a lot more. Its the best modular out there for me and he already adds so much to it and it evolves very fast. Reaktor is a pain and no joy at all.
P900 still has that sound but is not as versatile. I do not like any other desktop modular really since they all sound not as great as I want or the workflow is bad or i miss some features.
So P900 and Drambo is all I ever need for a modular.
Here iOS could even be more advanced again in the future for me since I not know if Drambo ever runs optimised on a Mac. And since Lunar Lander also comes for iOS I guess if P900 is ready one day it might come to iOS too and then I can run P900 inside Drambo, which would be a brilliant combo.
Of course I would prefer to have all in Logic but while Mac is great and I like my M1 machine, there is still sometimes more interesting going on in the iOS world.
The day Logic comes for iPads with a powerful chip like the M1 I would buy one again.
Sadly the iOS app integration (especially for iOS AUv3) is not ready for prime time.
Also f.e. you can not load Mac AU inside an iOS DAW, only if it is AUv3 which seems to be still rare. In the desktop world all takes much longer to adopt. IOS is moving faster forward here and of course there are less things to support. Mainly just AUv3 these days and standalone in some cases (which are often iOS exclusive too).
Oh and Drambo is also very cpu efficient as well. Lat but not least Drambo offers MPE and stereo OSC, filters, etc.etc,

There are too many parameters that cannot be modulated in Drambo. For example, you cannot modulate the ADSR stages or the stereo width of the Osc and so on and so on. In fact, more parameters cannot be modulated than can be. Big drawback.Cinebient wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 11:55 am I like Drambo because it sounds great to me and its super fast to work with and it has everything I need in a modular from the usual OSCs, wavetable, to physical modelling, samplers, easy switch to up to 8 voices, even a radio unit now and a lot more. Also, Drambo works fine for very simple constructions, but when a modular chain gets longer you have to do too much scrolling. Do something more complex and especially any branching and it fast becomes difficult to keep track of what is doing what. Drambo bogs down quickly when you try to do more than very simple stuff.
Bitwig's Grid is a far better modular environment. There is no comparison when it comes to speed, fluid workflow, visual overview, modulation, MPE support, etc.

Of course it has not everything and for a lot things thereto are some workarounds. It has nice morphing options or you could use the graphic shaper as envelope or whatever. The FX are just O.k. but I really like the zero delay feedback phaser. Indeed you can use the sequencer to modulate/morph any parameter (smooth it if ypu like to taste) also those which has no triangle.pdxindy wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 8:22 pmThere are too many parameters that cannot be modulated in Drambo. And while I am at feedback. You cannot create feedback paths with Drambo (beside in some FX like mentioned) which might be a major thing for some inside a modular. Does Bitwig do morph?
I just say for me personally its the best workflow of any modular. I never create monster presets which sound like an ambient wash at the end. A reason P900 is the right thing for me. It is also very limited and no open end modular since there is a fixed number of modules.
Bitwig is nice and I tested it but the sound is really not great too me compared to something like P900 or Reaktor and I could never use Bitwig as DAW, so its out for me.
Drambo is for sure not the best sounding modular but its great as well and its simply a joy to use for me, even on an iPhone. It works on iPads and on my Mac (like mentioned stand alone only so far, but I still could load any created patch as AUv3 in Logic and do not mess with scrolling in the GUI menus until things get solved).
Also tell me from which modular I could run 100 and 100 of modules with low cpu. I never would use that much but I saw people creating such patches on iOS devices. So its a matter of personal workflow.
But I am more into few modules. P900 can do so much with very few modules, where I indeed would need a lot more inside Drambo and indeed once you have to scroll a lot it can get out of control. But everything is better as Reaktor for me. I prefer to visit a dentist. Drambo has also quite a nice little and friendly community by now (compared to P900 where I feel lonely, lol).
For complex layering I anyway use simply my DAW and a mix from stacked tracks, third party FX, midi FX where even a modular synth is just a part of a sound.
In 99% of these modular monster videos I do not hear sounds I want and I am not into these self playing ambient randomness. I want playable sounds. I like to use sequencers and arps but also mainly for live playing rather than letting the sequencer run. If Beepstreet once add his Dagger and Zeeon filters to Drambo its maybe my new Nr.1 but there is still something going on in P900 which feels much more alive and organic but I don't know if a new version comes and will it run on my M1 (or future Apple silicon).
Another point for me. I focus on tools where I think the chance is bigger for native Apple silicon support. I doubt Bitwig, Reaktor and most other modulars will deliver here something soon.
miRack is also great. Like the small brother from VCV but its an AUv3, much much more efficient as VCV and has enough modules for my lifetime. Now I can load it as AUv3 inside Drambo as well and use everything from miRack as Drambo module as well of course as all other AUv3. The dogs bollocks!
But way too of topic. P900 is and will stay my favourite modular synth as long as I can open, create patches and play it inside Logic (and on iOS which has often an advance that you get also a standalone version and midi out options which are missing in Mac AUs).
