Do I need Dune 3 if I already own Serum, Massive, Massive X, and Pigments?

Only you can answer that really. I'd say you already have a lot of ground covered there, but Dune would do VA type sounds better than any of those in my opinion. Try the demo out and see what you think. Be aware though, it IS time-gated. You lose access after like 15 days or something.

Meh, I just bought it because it looks like the sale was supposed to end at midnight but they still have the sale price up so I jumped on it.

I like VA stuff the most and like obsession and legend a lot. Hopefully it has the sound quality I was hoping pigments would have (although I ADORE the Pigments UI). The pigments VA stuff sounds weak which is weird because Arturia's latest VAs have been pretty nice.

Is there any way to mark your favorite presets? I'm not gonna memorize the ones I like out of 1,000 presets.

no, you will have to copy them into their own folder

Yikes, hopefully that's fixed with version 4. I'm assuming that sort of update wouldn't happen for 3 since it's already a few years old.

None of his products has that feature afaik (none that I have).
I am not so hopeful, but hope I am wrong.

The other products (that I have) don't have anywhere close to the number of presets though. I can just make my own bank, not a huge deal.

Well, like carrieres said, just throw them all into a "favourites" folder. Not very elegant, but after you're done it's the same result pretty much.

You can never have too many. Get every killer synth that you can afford.

Have you looked at Viper? It's cheaper at full price than DUNE's sale price and it is an amazingly good synth that will probably complement what you already have more than DUNE would.

No, preset management in DUNE is stuck in the 1990s, I'm afraid. It's a big part of the reason I almost never use it.

you mean... the sound isn't so important, it's the preset management that matters most..? :o

If the sound was as much better as the preset management is worse, then you might have a point but the sound is only a teeny-tiny bit better and the preset management is a hundred times worse so, therefore, looms larger in the decision making process. That means I might use DUNE one time in 100, when that extra bit of sound quality really matters. The other 99 times I'll choose something else, that does the job just as well without nearly as much bother.

I am with Bones here.
They are other as good and better sounding synths whose workflow (which definitely includes preset management for me) suits me better.
They get used.

If I only cared about workflow and preset management I'd just use pigments for everything. But I don't think pigments sounds great so I don't use it.

I used to think there was a problem with Pigments' sound but once I started using it in actual songs, I discovered it holds its own very easily. It's almost the opposite of most synths, that sound good on their own but can't stand up to other instruments in a mix. Maybe its default volume is low or something? Consequently I use it in most of the things I work on. I don't use it for important parts but for the three or four parts in every song that are mostly there to do a job. It's just about the most versatile synth in my arsenal. The worst thing about Pigments is that it can be a bit of a CPU hog sometimes.
