also, zebra 2.9 is still a fantastic synth with a great many tricks up its sleeve - no need to wait for z3 to start making music with it!

Zebra2 is the synth that just keeps on giving.MitchK1989 wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 6:11 pm also, zebra 2.9 is still a fantastic synth with a great many tricks up its sleeve - no need to wait for z3 to start making music with it!

Jumped on the train in 2006 and the current version stands up head and shoulders with modern synths I use. It’s amazing that these updates over the years have been free. Thanks u-he!
I hope it’ll be supported for a while after it’s successor arrives

zebra2 + dark zebra seems to give the most possibilities for deep sounddesign. i discovered today.
i make my presets from scratch (i must make this remark in 50% of my posts..), so how more i can do myself, how more i like a synth.
still in doubt, not about quality and the possibilities, and now, today, i looked in to what dark zebra gives (not the presets), the resonators, more comb.. etc..
when i buy something new, i first check what i can which what i have, MSoundFactory, still in a kind of beta state..
is the synth that has the most "overlap" (and the differences are equal big..)
reason's Europa, or parsec, or the RE spectra additive synth (the last one is in way only one module of zebra2...).
doubt: budget, i had a limit, crossed it many times.. but this is a great opportunity.
and i have specialized arsenal of synths and effects. and DAW's... and editors...
(and of the synths: 3, ok, 4 soft modular ecosystems, in which i invested a lot, so, that gives also so many possibilities.)
if it had MPE, the doubt will be less, but i see, polyphonic aftertouch is supported, that already gives a lot of expression possibilities.
all art is technology driven

Yup... Zebra 3 will have note per midi channel... in the meanwhile, with Zebra 2, I do the multi-instance thingWasteLand wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 4:12 pm if it had MPE, the doubt will be less, but i see, polyphonic aftertouch is supported, that already gives a lot of expression possibilities.

i know that zebra3 will have MPE. perhaps too obsessed by MPE, i work also without MPE, and can achieve even with synths, that don't seem that way...., pretty great, out-of-world sounds, or better, sounds that gives a different experience... (or i hope..), even without MPE.pdxindy wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 4:15 pmYup... and i know the multi-instance thing, in bitwig it is a breeze...
and in voltage modular for instance, i can turn monophonic modules into full MPE modules (multi-instance, and per voice...).
so MPE must not give the deciding factor, i made already some presets, scratching the surface still, that for me show me, that zebra2 has it's own character, and dark zebra; resonators!!
difficult. perhaps some crowdfunding for myself...

His older stuff are the legendary digital fishphones , emagic analogue modelling effects etc..and what do you know his old site got updated a few months ago
Summary : he decided to quit the plugin game, I wish him all the best

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Thanks for sharing this! My dayjob is in a different field (running IT & data reporting at a social service nonprofit) but my experience with the unexpected impact of sudden growth is very similar...drowning in user support tickets, outsourcing much of the interesting technical work that was the reason I took the job, undertaking passion projects on nights/weekends that I don't have time for on the clock.Urs wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 12:44 pmDiva was so successful that our small team (3 peeps back then) could not handle the amount of support back then. I got stuck every day answering emails for many hours. Hence, I had to hire more staff and outsource tasks (particularly UI design) to external people. That didn't free up much time, because now I had to manage things. All the things I wanted to do were replaced by the things I had to do - which I yet couldn't do. Then of course people left, new people came and the company grew twice the size within a bit more than a year. So we had to move to new offices. At the same time cost went up and thus we had to release new software that we could come up with quickly rather than software that we wanted to do. A good example was Hive, which I almost literally developed on weekends as a way to escape the daily business. Positive side effect: Hive, like many other new releases featured technology I had envisioned for Zebra3 and Uhbik 2.
But more software also meant more maintenance, so when we had to do global updates, we had more work and stuff. Think annual Apple updates or the advent of 8-core machines and 4k monitors. One thing comes to the other, until at some point releasing even a seemingly simple new product becomes a huge task with all that is involved (Repro-5 had us postpone the Cat indefinitely). There was no time anymore to even think about projects which do not fall into the category of quick and easy, such as Zebra3, Uhbik 2, Drum modelling or Berlin Modular. Until two years ago, when the first sale with NI happened, and we didn't need to do quick things anymore and could start working on the things we actually always wanted to. I consider Hive 2.0 the start of a new era for us as we start "finishing up" on things we had to leave behind. Then Uhbik, then Zebra3.
Once I find the time to finish Uhbik and Zebra3, we'll decide on Berlin Modular, Cat and the necessity of a Diva update. But given that Diva has been selling better year after year, the answer is probably quite obvious. I recently ventured into a new weekend project briefly that had me put probes in a vintage synth...
I truly appreciate your continued devotion to the highest-quality products! I used the NI sale to fill in the Diva, Twangstrom, and Satin-shaped holes in my plugin collection. Hope 2021 is a great year for u-he (and the rest of the world).
