Hehe, it DEFINITELY feels like over analyzing, Sleepwalker.
But it does help me and I feel less overwhelmed now. It might be because I'm new to KVR and OSC. I admire everything I've seen in this community so far. Just seeing people out in the world loving the same kinds of things I love is kick ass.

Me to voted! This was a fun and somewhat social event.
Its nice we have 2 weeks to do this cause I might go back and look over my votes and move things around a bit before the end. Most votes ended at 4 and 3, with just one vote at 1. I tried to be as fair as possible, not judging by style but by skill.

40 tracks left to score, wow, this is insane, so many great sounds!
Most of my sounds are coming from wonderful Vital community, thank you for all those presets.
I had one original design, with the help of ValhallaSupermassive, which I am sharing here (Vital preset and more complete Bitwig preset)
Well, it will take some time to enjoy the rest, hear you soon!

Wasnt the point to make our own presets from scratch though? Synth competition to make our own sounds and not use others? I made everything from scratch .init, didnt even look at someones presets. Othervice it would be much quicker and much easier for me to build a song, just remixing others presets. I spent 90% of the time crafting the sounds from only the free wavetables, and just 10% on arrangement and mix.gethiox wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:07 pm 40 tracks left to score, wow, this is insane, so many great sounds!

Anyway, dont really care. Its fine. I had fun and learned a new synth! That was my main goal. Not to win.

I agree, i think the point is to design your own patchs. I'm looking forward to the tutorials!Sleepwalker wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:48 pmWasnt the point to make our own presets from scratch though? I though I didn't break any rule with that, and I agree It would be the best to design all sounds by ourselves.Sleepwalker wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:48 pm Wasnt the point to make our own presets from scratch though? Synth competition to make our own sounds and not use others?
I don't really mind disqualification because of that, I already received everything I ever wanted in this year.
Good luck y'all!

My main goal is 1: to actually finish a complete song/track in the month; 2: Learn a new synth from scratch; 3: Design a soundset which will fit with the genre I have chosen to work with this round; 4: Learn from all the entries from others; 5: Enjoy the whole process.
Getting into the top 5 is always an unlikely bonus for me. Any thoughts of "winning" are never there, I just want to make music which hopefully some or all of you enjoy. All within the bounds of the challenge, of course. I will look at presets, but I know few if any will fit what I need for the track in hand. Most will need the adsr, filter, fx changing as a minimum. Most will just suggest ideas as to which direction I would need to go for a basic patch - e.g. the TTWT template?
So, in the end, it's about the new synth, composing something new, crafting sounds for the track, and then of course mixing and and mastering and all that technical stuff.

No, it never was, though it could be more fun to do all from scratch. Some just tweak the sounds...Sleepwalker wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:48 pm Wasnt the point to make our own presets from scratch though?

Nope. It is 100% permitted to use presets instead of designing your own patches. OSC is a lot of things to a lot of people. It's informal and largely self-directed, within a few intentionally vague rules. If you've already received everything you wanted out of the process, you're doing it right.gethiox wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:15 pmI though I didn't break any rule with that, and I agree It would be the best to design all sounds by ourselves.Sleepwalker wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 2:48 pm Wasnt the point to make our own presets from scratch though? A lot of people prefer making their own patches, and prefer entries by others who made their own, for a variety of reasons. It demonstrates a more comprehensive mastery of the synth. You can push the synth in ways the creator didn't expect and get some really unique results. You have to do it to get the particular kind of sound you want because nobody's made the sound you want for your track. It's a good way to learn sound design or flex your e-peen. Take your pick. I think it's pretty rewarding, and would recommend it.

Exactly. I'm one of those who just don't care about placement but rather enjoying whole process, sharing experience, learning new things, and failing as frequently as possible.FrogsInPants wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 7:44 pm If you've already received everything you wanted out of the process, you're doing it right.![]()
So, the most important rule is to have fun.
Friend of mine showed me that place, where you can try to make and share a track on whatever level you are, and besides strict rules (biased to show maximum potential available in any of given synth) I found it really motivating (well, I'm still working on it
