To each their own of course,
But it sure has enough bass, fatness and analogousness for my ears which grew up on analog.

Five tracks of J-8 and a DMG Track Limiter on the main buss. No EQ etc.

I'm actually looking at grabbing this while it's still on sale.
But is it me, or do a few of the "Jupiter 8 Factory" patches have the LFO rate set way too high? Specifically, I'm talking about:
"09 Lo Strings", where the LFO is set to 11.70 Hz (and the patch has serious tuning issues);
"17 Solo Voice" (12.21 Hz);
"18 Choir Voice" (9.80 Hz);
and "23 Whistle" (12.71 Hz).
There may be others, but I gave up after hearing these. I didn't notice it in some of the other, third-party presets.
These patches (where available) sound this bad on the Arturia version or the version I had from Roland Cloud. I mean, the "Lo Strings" isn't even in tune, and the LFO is so high it sounds like a vibrato -- and a fast one at that.
The other patches have such a high vibrato that they don't sound like "voices" or a "whistler" at all. LFO rates much lower (in some cases, under 1 Hz), sound much better and more natural, I think.
This is in v1.2.0RC, downloaded just a few hours ago.

Odd.
Whistle for instance on mine, LFO is 6.36 Hz, and Choir Voice is 4.90 Hz, Solo Voice is 6.11 HZ and Lo Strings is 5.87 Hz
But indeed Lo String does sounds funny in the lower octaves.(even the one that Walter Cruz converted)... Don't recall it sounding like this some revisions before.

Thanks for checking these. Which version of the synth do you have?zvenx wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:46 am Odd.

Sounds like a bug. Sounds like the the lfo rates are 1:2 in comparison with each other. Are you using different sampling rates, like one of you using 48khz and the other using 96khz?

1.20 RC... But I didn't start with that version....I am wondering if along the way some of the factory j8 sounds got changed.
The plugin creates the factory presets when you use it for the first time or if it doesn't see a Preset Folder.
My preset folder maybe older than yours.
Tell me an LFO for another few presets please.
Or let me do mine and you tell me what is in yours.
Hungry life a wolf is 1.52 Hz. (dave polich)
Bit Shift EV Bass (empty vessel) is 0.13 Hz
Mono Porta Arp (Tal bank Arp) 2.13 Hz

I'm at 44.1khz but just checked Lo Strings against the Roland Cloud version. Also has that LFO routed to PWM and a tiny bit to OSC1 pitch. Same as the TAL version. Sounds better with a slower LFO if you ask me, but hey, I didn't design the patch. And tuning? Just throw a bunch of chorus and delay on it!

Interesting -- it appears they are twice what you have, @rsp:zvenx wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:55 am 1.20 RC... But I didn't start with that version....I am wondering if along the way some of the factory j8 sounds got changed.

My "Hungry Like The Wolf" patch's LFO is 3.03 Hz
"Bit Shift EV" is .26 Hz
"Mono Porta Arp" is 4.26 Hz
Is this something I can look forward to each time there's a version change? I wonder what else isn't what it's supposed to be now.

Interesting to hear what others have as their LFO's in those patches and if they could somehow recall what date they first installed J-8 (or what version which is the ultimate question)

I'm using the patches that came with J-8 when availablezvenx wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:46 am But indeed Lo String does sounds funny in the lower octaves.(even the one that Walter Cruz converted)... Don't recall it sounding like this some revisions before.

But now I'm not sure that I will ever finish... the missing patches now are kinda boring and hard to know if they are right - the FX ones.
Maybe I should just fine tune eveything and declare 'finished'

I appreciate your effort on this, Walter. I'd just downloaded your patches about half an hour before you said you'd updated them, so I'll grab them again and see how they fare.waltercruz wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:10 amI'm using the patches that came with J-8 when availablezvenx wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 1:46 am But indeed Lo String does sounds funny in the lower octaves.(even the one that Walter Cruz converted)... rspI began adding the missing ones, and fixing details comparing with Arturia and patch sheets, but sometimes the Arturia differs from the patch sheets too. (But Lo Strings was already adjusted a bit). There was even a case where Arturia used some extra features not available on JP-8 to recreate one of the factory patches.

I've also noticed the lfo's being way too fast on the strings patches. They sounded terrible until I lowered them significantly. Never noticed this with the Cloud or Arturia strings patches.

Out of curiosity, which version of the synth do you have, and when did you initially install it? The issue seems to be tied to when you installed the patches or which version of the synth you had then (if you can remember).Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Jan 03, 2021 3:31 am I've also noticed the lfo's being way too fast on the strings patches.
